yeah I'd love to see it again, in 3d at the cinema. I wouldnt turn down such a visual treat though I'd give it a miss on tv now. But its certainly no Arthur Christmas.

Perhaps in migitation I did miss a bit when I drifted off in the middling post-opener sequences.

quite enjoyed this, good laughs and absolutely loved the sandman, elves (who really did remind me of the minions in despicable me, probably why i loved them even more) and that one yeti who they kept telling him to paint in a different colours. visuals were brilliant and thought it was a good storyline

Enjoyed this well enough but it never felt particularly original. Oddly everyone is saying that the elves were like the minions in Despicable Me but fail to mention that the yetis served the same purpose as well. Which felt doubly cynical. Throw in similarities to Monsters Inc and Arthur Christmas and the film suffered from never quite having an identity of it's own. The story was also fairly average and it could have done with a bit more humour.

On the plus side it looked fantastic. Yes some of the character design was unappealing or bland (like the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Pitch Black) but the rest of the world that was created looked impressive. Having Roger Deakins as the visual consultant (in much the same way he was on How to Train Your Dragon) certainly pa*d off. It also had some of the best 3D I've seen in an animated film (the boy on a sled ride around the small town was exciting and involving). A rare case of it being better to see a film in 3D than not.

Overall it was an easy enough watch and I'm glad I saw it, but it could have been a lot better.

On a separate note, definite minus points to Odeon Kingston who showed the Virgin short '2:20' before the film. As anyone who's already seen it will know, it involves a man finding a pair of glasses that show when people are going to die. Why exactly the cinema thought this would be an appropriate thing to show to a cinema full of kids is beyond me. I've mentioned it in the feedback form.

Saw this at Braehead this morning, I have no idea how the first 10 minutes of the movie goes as I was stuck b*ying popcorn for 3 kids after seating them at 10:20 due to Odeon Braehead not actually opening the main doors to the whole cinema until 10:15. 2 of the slowest people on the concessions stand aaargh.

We got the virgin short at Manchester as well which confused me as it was not a virgin film, I am sick of seeing this one now. Until you mentioned it, it never occurred to me about it being unsuitable for kids, I do agree though as this is usually shown before adult films.

I was surprised Manchester was only about half full, seeing as all the tickets went very quick. Thanks to Steve for inviting me on his ticket. I really enjoyed this, to be honest after reading the early reviews I was not sure what to expect, but from the start I really enjoyed it. I thought the 3D was one of the best I had seen and loved the characters, Jack and the Easter Bunny in particular. Definitely worth the effort of getting up early 8/10.

Hopefully this year we will get more free Manchester screenings :cross: as they are rare as hen's teeth nowadays :tears:
Hoping to beat my 2024 total of 32 :cross:

Did you still have to swap etickets for actual tickets?

do you reckon the film is on the same disc as the Virgin's one as I know the two previews for Glasgow are both in Braehead? Yeah the 2:20 is definitely not suitable for children. However this year's winner is suitable for children. Though it wasn't the best one in my opinion. http://www.virginmediashorts.co.uk/film/2754/rocket

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

Yes Yinster I got my tickets issued at 10:20 which only left 10 mins to get popcorn and seats, I was in the queue from 10 and we were one of the first served. Shambolic, hope it isn't the same tomorrow or I'll have a huge tantrum

Don't you think the Virgin short would go right over the heads of little ones?

I don't think that's the point. Some children might understand it and the fact that the guy in the short film was wearing special glasses and there we all were sitting in the cinema with our 3D glasses at the ready made it more uncomfortable. The short was totally unsuitable for a family audience and Virgin should know better. I told the Virgin rep this when I left. Feel free to call me old fashioned or worse -- it was a poor choice from Virgin.

Really loved this, but agree with others that there may have been something missing bur on the whole i found it very enjoyable.
Particularly liked the easter bunny's warren and the eggs, Sandy was great and absolutely loved Jude Law as Pitch Black, think he really enjoyed it too :)
