Safety Not Guaranteed
Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
Well I won't recognise anyone if they've done tv rather than film, and the rating on IMDB is high enough for me to give this a go. Plus it definitely sounds light-hearted, which suits me.

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
I enjoyed this film, but I was expecting a bit more. Wouldn't say it's a memorable fim and it felt a bit rushed towards the end. 7/10

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
I thought it was one of the most boring films I have seen in a long while, and if I had not been stuck in the middle of a Row, would have left.
Absolutley, no co-hesion in the StoryLine whatsoever.

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
Saw this at Lee Valley today. This film absolutely failed as a comedy. None of the jokes worked and it was just irritating to just see it think it was hilarious and doing the typical and tried and tested techniques to get a laugh. However i thought the idea's and the story presented were actually great. I really loved the idea's about trying to escape a moment in time only to find the moment in time here. Got some good dialogue out of it when it wasn't trying to be funny. But the execution was just sooo hatefully shallow. How everyone's reason for escaping had to do with a love interest or getting laid. The head reporter guy going to the town to get laid. The stereotypical Socially Awkward Indian getting laid. The Crazy Time Travel Guys motivation was about a girl. There was no variety or nothing to really distinguish these characters and really end up tethering them to this time, as the movie seemed to want to deal with running from something but finding something else instead. There could've been great compare/contrast scenes and parallels but to no avail. As a result, the film felt like it was repeating its trite message over and over again and creating a pacing vacuum where it felt like it was spinning its wheels.
The government people following him felt like wasted potential as during the awesome ending they just stood there and didn't contribute. They only served as a wrench in the relationship between Kenneth and Darius and break the trust, but it got repaired like 3 minutes later so there was no point to them being there as they didn't affect the plot. And the relationship between them was rushed too as they pulled out all the cliches and tried to make it endearing. The relationship between Alex (i think) and his High School sweetheart was just so shallow and contrived and tried to improve his character but he returned to dump his problems and image problems onto other people and neither of them changed from it. Nothing interesting happened between any of them as a result and it just felt hate filled.
However, the ending was great and cool, but i can't help but feel it wasn't earned. Nothing beforehand felt like it mattered or had an impact
Only highlight was Darius, who i enjoyed quite a bit only because she felt like a live action version of Daria from the 1990's cartoon. Always depressed and snyde and sarcastic and even had near the same image and name.
Overall score: 4/10

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
Saw this tonight at Odeon Surrey Quays. About half full tonight.
I am a sucker for these indie films. You are either going to love it or hate it. Whimsical, quirky and a fairy tale like ending to combat our ever cynical world that we live in.
I always find indie films to be quite short but they always seem to feel a lot longer.

Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
We had the world's most distracting audience around us tonight. Next to me sat a woman with a huge iPad which was lit up for an entire hour before the film started even when she wasn't using it as she was on her phone instead! I had to ask a guy in the row in front to put his phone away, which thankfully he hastily did, and there were a few guys parked next to OH who laughed and commented hysterically throughout and were also complete litterbugs - we waded through a see of popcorn on the way out! Greedy pigs.
So I was quite distracted tonight and also really tired which meant I didn't appreciate it as much the second time round. It was still quirky and funny with great performances, but it felt longer than it was. The ending is still cool though.
