How can Amour be simultaneously nominated for Best Film and Best Foreign Language Film?

well other films have been simultaneously nominated for best animation and best film before haven't they? it's no different than being in other categories, the only one that would be strange is to be in the both the adapted & original categories.

shocked Silver Linings Playbook has picked up so many nominations.

Me too, it's not a bad film, but certainly not one of the best 10 of the year.

As I'm so out of step I better get researching before coming up with my random predictions for the FMUK Oscar game. Fingers crossed that's happening again this year.

Apparently SLP has done exceptionally well since the last time a film received a best picture and all 4 acting nominations was in 1981.

OK, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO SKYFALL? Surely one of the greatest films of 2012, beautifully shot and acted, and both critically and commercially successful - I know the quality of the line-up this year is pretty even, and I am glad to see Amour in the Best Picture category, but for heaven's sake they could have slipped it in somewhere. At least they've nominated Roger Deakins. If he doesn't win...

I don't doubt that it's a difficult watch and moves very slowly but I thought it was a sensitive portrait of dementia and ageing that doesn't shy away from its subject matter. It's exactly the kind of thing the Academy would vote for, anyway. I'd be interested to know why you thought it was the worst film of 2012 and consequently not as good as Piranha 3DD other than that it was 'depressing'.
