Ms Thrifty wrote:This is fascinating, c_t, as this play has been hugely controversial in terms of audience reaction - did you know? Lots of discussion on theatre sites and blogs; also lots of audience walkouts despite there being no interval, which must have been disruptive. I vowed some time back never to see another Martin Crimp play but it's great to hear that you found so much of interest. The publicity must have been good for the Royal Court, too, even if much of it was adverse, as you know what they say...
I purposefully didn't read any reviews beforehand Ms T, as I feared it may spoil the enjoyment of seeing the play. However, it's interesting to hear how controversial it has been perceived and there were lots of walk-outs! (I've walked out of 3 plays in the past 1.5 years but I have to say I was never tempted yesterday and also didn't see any walk-outs during our performance). I'll have to look up the reviews now and see if they can shed any light at all on the play's confusing ending.

By the way, I wasn't familiar with Martin Crimp's work before, but have seen a wealth of fantastic plays at the Royal Court, including Clybourne Park which had the same director as In The Republic of Happiness, Dominic Cooke, so because of that I am always inclined to see productions at this theatre if the opportunity arises.

Hello! Just came back from the Guinness World Records Show. In my opinion, it was well worth the journey! Just bear in mind it is done mostly for families and children. The presenters were brilliant in engaging the audience and the show overall was entertaining and enjoyable. Recommended!

I saw Salad Days at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith last night which was so much fun! It's sweet, silly, very funny, the actors were great (the lead girl in particular has a wonderful voice), the tunes are catchy and the musical is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

It's a shame not many people seem to know about it, which means that it wasn't very full. I really, REALLY recommend everyone to check it out. Top price seats are only £12/£17 now with the following offers:

Premium seats £12 + no fees (was £30) http://bit.ly/TAVG85 *Thurs matinees until 31st Jan.
Best available £30 seats reduced to £17 + no fees http://bit.ly/TAVG85 *Mon-Thurs eves until 7th Feb

I could do with a bit of Salad. I cant understand all the fuss about the Magistrate, its ok but a bit bereft of humour for a full-on comedy. The same jokes get rotated a lot.

thx for the heads-up.

If only I had someone to meet and veg out in the show with. (but 'Veg out' is a terribly demeaning phrase to vegetables, I feel).

Raj, you are surely not saying you cannot go alone to Salad Days (or anything else) are you? If so, please don't let that stop you! I know it has had rave reviews but I've seen it twice (not this production) at the insistence of others and just did not get the attraction, though admit I'm wavering and wondering whether it would be third time lucky. And there are some great deals out there..
