I pa*d good money to watch this rubbish. Lots of explosions, witless script. Sorry to report it's not as good as the earlier Die Hards, and I was frankly insulted on behalf of Russian friends by the stereotypes.

Ooooh! That is sneaky. I didn't have chance to look at that when it was first announced this morning!

Mediocre is right!

Ok, the action sequences aren't that bad but there's no heart in 'em whatsoever.
All the characters are deeply unlikeable, the dialogue is unmemorable, there's a Russian Antonio Banderas, a cringeworthy dancing villain...this really is D.H.I.N.O. (Die Hard in Name Only).

R.I.P. John McClane. Your legacy ends here.

They were taking phones away at the O2 and even though we arrived at 5.45pm already, the last row was pretty much taken already and the balcony half full. It's getting ridiculous, really. Security was quite strict and after 6pm people had to basically blag their way in by saying friends had kept them seats - ZoeBanfield, ejwrank and David came in that way and I actually had to go back with them to the entrance as their seat guarantor! Crazy stuff. One guy in front of us kept the seat next to him occupied until the very last minute when he finally gave it up so ZoeBanfield and rawsalsa could sit together. Tricky really when you can't text someone where they are!

This was obviously an utterly forgettable if mercifully short crash-bang-wallop movie with the flimsiest of plots, lots of loud explosions and some questionable lines where "killing some scumbags" is used as a father-son bonding exercise.

BUT

Why did nobody tell me that my favourite German actor is in this? First scene, there he was in the Russian prison. He looked older and had a beard, then he started speaking Russian so I doubted myself for a minute but then his name came up in the opening credits: Sebastian Koch (The Lives of Others, Unknown, Albatross) in all his glory.

He was the only reason I kept watching with mild interest, so I give this 6/10 but Sebastian Koch 10/10. It's lovely to see German actors in international careers.

We had some annoying talkers/laughers behind us, and when it was over and we rushed out I told OH to go to the loo while I collected the phones. When I got them the queue out from screening room to foyer was that long and clogged up that he was stuck and I had to ask some very unwilling people to please let him through as he didn't need to queue up with everyone else for the phones! Inconsiderate people really get me sometimes.
