Ambitious it was not. But it was pure (not to be mistaken for clean) fun. I just watched it on Friday and I loved it. Even though it would have been perfectly fine had some of the gore been absent. Jeremy Renner was so cute, and Gemma Arterton looked pretty hot in that outfit.

Re: Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
a well made CGI-heavy action movie with nothing else besides, but sometimes that all you want. You may well cringe at hearing American accented H & G in medieval Europe (and it really does sound appallingly lazy and bad) but I don't think anyone cares as long as you remember its brainless fun.
IMAX size is probably unnecessary, since the opportunities to use it are few and far between (just the troll), go with the normal screenings is my advice.

Re: Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters
Having seen this, I can say that I really enjoyed it. I knew it wasn't for kids, but it was really violent lol. I'm not sure how they would do another one though, but I would be interested in seeing it. I'd give it a 3.5/5.
