Re: Broken City
No problems at WIQ, we were let in at about 6pm and got our favourite seats. Annoying latecomers though and some talkers which I had to ask to be quiet right at the beginning.
I liked it. It's not something I would ever watch again and it's really a simple story but all the actors were good and it was even funny now and then.

Re: Broken City
Just back from seeing Broken City in Aberdeen at a packed Cineworld. At first I thought it was going to be a bit slow but it turned out to be really quite good and I would recommend seeing it. All in all I would say its a 7 out of 10.

Re: Broken City
Russell Crowe looked orange!
Promising start but then fizzled out and seriously dragged in the second half. 6/10.

Re: Broken City
Saw this in a packed Edinburgh.
Enjoyed it .Old fashioned style of film just telling a story . Being Scotland, it did trigger a few sniggers at the start when he was referred to as Officer Taggart!
It is not going to win any awards but it will get bums on seats. Thought Mark Wahlberg was excellent. Russel Crowe was indeed orange.

Re: Broken City
Back from Cineworld Glasgow where luckily they decided to show it on screen 18 which is one of the bigger screens with 180 seats. Unfortunately that wasn't enough seats as it was heavily oversubscribed. We were first in the queue at 17:40 and was allowed in at 17:45. By the time it was 18:00 it was half full/empty. By 18:15/ 18:20 it was almost full. So by the film started there were still about 30 or so people trying to find vacant seats that weren't there.
As for the film it started slowly but was interesting enough throughout. Though I did think it was trying to action/thriller/politics/funny. So many things but nothing really. Walberg was good and Crowe was alright even with a dodgy accent and tanned face. But it was his hair I kept watching. Good to see Pepper and Chandler too. 6/10

Re: Broken City
I arrived at 6:10 too but managed to get to the balcony because Livi92 saved a place for me :) but I guess that many ppl got confused with the timesasamaic wrote:I don't think I got an e-mail to point out the time had changed, but when I got my reminder, the time had been corrected on the tickets. I was expecting 6.30pm to be wrong.
Got there for 6.10pm, which was super early for me - the balcony was closed off! I didn't believe it at first, but if most people thought it was meant to start at 6.30pm rather than 7pm, that makes sense. Downstairs was fairly packed - including the rubbish front section which is too close to the screen. Popular film it seems!
Russell Crowe was so much better in a role not requiring any singing... I enjoyed this, particularly the score.
the movie was great, I couldn't have asked for more really, a lil spoiler here: some Spanish was spoken on the movie and there was no subtitles but some ppl from the balcony managed to get it as I heard a couple of loud laughts

Re: Broken City
Kept expecting to see Ted - Marky Mark's sidekick, and why didn't the orange Javert break into song? I couldn't take my eyes off that thing on his head. Looked more like a hat!
As Alythonian said, "There's bin a murdurrrrr!".
I was actually confused by the seemingly endless intro/credit/logo animated thingies (I'm sure they have a name). They really irritated me together with their little fanfares and jingles. You never quite know whether they are the film starting or just another credit. The final one seemed to say 1984 in big letters - was this the date of the opening scene, before it jumped 7 years? I somehow doubt it and seems yet another stupid distracting animated logo. I also struggled with a couple of the actors in the opening few scenes looking almost identical to each other - bald head and dark goatee beard?
All in all not as confusing as Anna (get your gun) Karenina last night so more entertaining for me.
6/10 from me.
PS. All through the film I could smell menthol or eucalyptus - not too bad until just a few seconds ago I discover a half sucked throat lozenge stuck to my jeans on my bum! Ewwwwwwww! Some dirty wee bugger must have spat their sweet out onto the cinema seat! Yuck!
