Re: Broken City
No problems at Crawley and film started bang on time at 6.30 pm, though the auditorium was probably only about 50% full, despite the Sky rep and Cineworld staff warning us that it was "sold out" (presumably meaning fully subscribed) and that we should squeeze up. No-one did and there was no need. OH and I enjoyed it and thought it deserved higher than the 6.2 rating on IMDB last time I checked - we reckoned it was worth 7.5 and, combined with a meal out afterwards, it made a very pleasant, if undemanding, outing.

Re: Broken City
Once again, arrived at Greenwich in good time for a 6:30 start, only to be told it would be a 7pm start again. Would have been annoyed, but plenty of people were already there by 5:40pm, so at least getting there early meant we got good seats (front row, centre of the balcony).
Film-wise.. I was very impressed. It was a slow-burner for me, the first 20 mins or so, I wasn't sure I'd like it, but the more it went on, the more I liked it. Lots of action and plenty of twists to keep you guessing the whole way through. Great performance from Mark Wahlberg.. I swear he gets hotter, the older he gets.. 7/10

Re: Broken City
Cardiff quite full, Film OK. 6/10
Not bad but not very good either, felt the plot was a bit all over the place.
Was becoming a bit obsessed watching the colour changes of Russells' appearance -tan to orange, hair - which could have had its own acting credits and CZJ - not a big part but just as good as anyone else on screen.
I guess the American cinema goers would not know about our 'Taggart', however, I did wonder if a Scots accent would make an appearance as Russell was using so many others.
Don't be put off seeing it, - it could be me having a sudafed experience

Re: Broken City
Made it to the balcony @ 6:05pm and was surprised that there were very few seats left at that stage, what time did they actually let people into the screen?asamaic wrote:Got there for 6.10pm, which was super early for me - the balcony was closed off! I didn't believe it at first, but if most people thought it was meant to start at 6.30pm rather than 7pm, that makes sense. Downstairs was fairly packed - including the rubbish front section which is too close to the screen. Popular film it seems!
As for the film itself, I really enjoyed it. Thought it was a solid old fashioned dramatic thriller that didn't outstay it's welcome time wise.
I will say that I thought it was a bit strange that Billy Taggart's girlfriend suddenly felt their relationship hadn't been working for years as everything seemed fine between them up to that point (I also thought that Billy's reaction to her love scene was actually pretty understandable
So overall Broken City gets a solid 7/10 from me...

Re: Broken City
At 100% full Glasgow screening tonight. Strangely the cinema was full much quicker than usual.
Film was ok though agree there were plenty "holes" in the storyline. Acting was ok but Russel Crowe's "hat"/hair was certainly eye-catching and dominated the scenes.
Looked as though it could have been lifted off by a passing bird!
Another free evening out . . . glad I hadn't pa*d!
Marks 6/10

Re: Broken City
Saw this at Cineworld West India Quay.
A complicated mess of a film lacking real tension. So when we have the the finale it is all rather a flat ending.

Re: Broken City
Saw this at Didsbury about 85% full. It was an OK by the book film. Glad I didn't have to p*y as it's the type of film I would rather watch at home. Thanks to AK for the company, mints and Xmas pud.

Re: Broken City
Wandsworth was full - why do people come in late, see that the rubbish seats at the front are pretty full, then still go wandering around at the back looking for good seats? do they really think that all the others chose to sit in the front row?
2 girls rocked up about 7.10
What was the point? film had been on for 40 mins.
so as to the film, it was so so. There was more animation in a dead man's eyes and Russell Crowe's hair, than in Mark Whalberg. Compared to Arbitrage, it was sadly lacking. 6/10

And completely full at Boldon too, but we were in the smallest screen in the cinema.
I thought it was a pretty decent cop thriller, and mercifully didn't get carried away with excessive blood and gore. Mark Wahlberg was excellent - he goes from strength to strength, doesn't he? As for our friend, Russell Crowe, he did look slightly orange, and I found myself staring at his hair on more than one occasion.
It was lovely to meet up with jmbblue.
7/10 from me.
