Re: Robot & Frank
Let's put it this way - if you happen to live with an Alzheimer's patient this takes you by surprise. Where Amour didn't get me, this one did. It's almost impossible to talk about this film without spoilering. I thought I'd get a heist movie with a robot - boy was I wrong. I started crying when he realises
who Susan Sarandon is and realised that this probably didn't happen the first time but every time he realises will feel like the first time
and got into full-blown blubber mode when
he wiped Robot's memory. What a symbolic act as well. And he had to basically embrace him to do it - one final embrace and then the person you knew is gone. Shit.
I am glad it wasn't a heavy film but light in tone and quite funny in places (the "self-destruction mode" thing got the biggest laugh from me) and I though Frank Langella was absolutely astonishing. James Marsden is also displaying quite an acting range - he can do romantic hero, he can do funny and here he can do serious and out of his depth at his father's illness.
I am really happy I have tickets for next week at WIQ again so I will skip the rubbish-looking Identity Thief and go for this again. OH will be fine with this - he won't remember he's seen it already.
P.S. I want a robot for OH. I wouldn't have to bother with the council services then.

Re: Robot & Frank
gentle sci-fi tinged tragi-drama, with Frank Langella stealing all the best off key unexpected lines.
"Why do you have a space helmet for a head?" lol. I'll give this a straight 10 for its novelty, but besides that its a magic film.
And now I want a robot.

Re: Robot & Frank
aha but.. since its a film set slightly in the future, surely this is one of our generation, who has got older..?RickyRaj wrote:I liked it and its great to see the older generation (is that politically correct?) embracing technology :) 8/10.

Re: Robot & Frank
Saw this tonight at Vue Islington and lovely to bump into Cinefila again.
What a great little film this was. Yes, it was light and not to heavy for a sensitive subject. Some great comedic moments but an amazing performance from Frank Langella.
