Green Zone

#1 Post by andrews » Wed Nov 04, 2009 5:05 pm

Directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Matt Damon, Green Zone is an electrifying thriller set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War when no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences.

During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors are dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

Starring alongside Matt Damon are Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs and Khalid Abdalla.

Green Zone is released in cinemas from March 2010.

They are doing regional premieres for this film like Alice in Wonderland, but I guess it's hard to call it a "premiere" really when no one from the production shows up...(I am guessing anyway)

I'm trying to be clever and do this on my phone so sorry if it turns out pants. I've just seen this in the comp thing beate posted and it's been a right bizarre experience. We were told it was formal dress code, no jeans or trainers, which flummoxed us cos i couldn't find anything on net about premiere's or why we needed to dress up. Anyway of we went in suits and pearls to be greeted only by the film company's security guards. Over the next 30 mins several randoms who i guessed had also won tickets turned up, none as well dressed as us tho. The clientel got gradually more shoddy and one woman and her girlfriend were both allowed in with jeans on! Boyf said my commentary could rival joan rivers. Anyway just near time for the film to start and it was still dead empty suddenly about 80 what can only be described as students rolled in with pints in hand! Then a man in a tux got up and gave a speech and apparently this was one of only 3 screening round the uk and they'd got permission from paul greengrass to show it as a way of thanking the odeon staff for all their hard work. They'd allowed the local radio station to have some tickets as a thanks for their support too. So i surmise the ahem students were actually staff. Anyway the staff had a free bar on but us plebs couldn't go so it was a bit like being stuck in someone's xmas party. Oh and the film? Well boyf loved it 9/10 from him. I thought it was ok 7/10 from me. I liked the hurt locker more. It's certainly topical what with the recent iraq enquiry, i can't see middle america being enamoured with it tho. A bit more complex than yr average war flick but we did get a good old shoot em up near the end. Erm that's it. Hope this phone does send this, afterall cos me thumbs are sore'

I don't see what's wrong with taking a packed lunch in with you. I always do it (along with a flask of tea) if the time of a movie clashes with lunch or dinner. Rather that than pig out on the cr*p sold in cinemas. I think it's much worse to have hundreds of people supplying a surround sound popcorn eating experience.

Hear, hear! And let's hear it for Old Biddies, too, whilst we're on the subject - since I am one...

Well it depends - a sandwich is fine but not maybe a whole three course meal, LOL. Spanner always seems to attract the eaters, I seem to remember her talking about a family picnic involving smoked salmon and chocolate mousse - in the cinema. :giggle:
