Welcome to the Punch
Re: Welcome To The Punch
I agree with Valda. It worked for me today. I went it with very low expectations and ended up enjoying the film! Not the shooting, but the good music, some nice panorama shots, views of Iceland mountains it all added up!.. I couldn't blame the acting or the plot, it didn't seem too long for me and I was following the story... I thought it was better then a typical police thriller. As I've said it worked for me and I'm glad a made an effort to go and see it tonight.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
It started about 40 minutes late at the Greenwich O2 with people still arriving after the film started.
Some strong UK actors but the storyline was very weak. Not all bad though some good action scenes/granny scene, but definitely a slow burner.

Films at the O2 never start before 7pm. Are you saying it started at 7.40pm or rather was it 7.10pm? Coz that would be normal for the O2.

I think this was due to the ushers trying to find more seats downstairs - even the front rows were packed.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Saw this tonight at Vue Islington and lovely to see PXC, Ejwrank ,Beate and nice to meet Livi92 and Greece too.
Dare I say it. I actually really enjoyed it. The plot is rather thin but as a cop thriller it was tense, taut and fast paced. This film worked for me.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I know what was missing from this - green. And red! Everything was blue. This must be some directorial/artistic method, but its intention and meaning is lost on me and just lead to emphasising the boring bits. I wonder what Piddley Scott actually had in mind? As to missing Zac Efron? In his tight white pants? Ewwww! Now if they were green or red? No - maybe still not!
I also found this rather overly complicated and it left the plot to have to be explained towards the end to make this work. I think all the actors did well with what they had but my interest waned and my eyelids rebelled somewhat. Not helped by those wishy-washy colours being extremely soporific.
OK - we got that James McAvoy had a sore leg, but did we really have to see him aspirating his own
oedematous thigh with a large hypodermic syringe? This was somewhat unrequired.
I think The Sweeney had some heritage behind it as well as some nostalgic reminders of an original. This didn't. A pretty daft title as well. The scenery was particularly bland and seemingly generic other than a few stylised aerial London shots, otherwise change the accents/overdub this and it could be in Metropolis, USA without much suspension of belief. Equally though this would have been more cliched if there had been shots of Big Ben and Buck House etc. gratuitously sprinkled thoughout.
I did enjoy it, but had I been watching this on TV (and thus not having pa*d for it) I'd definitely have lost interest and given up well before the end. Captivate me it did not. That said, I stayed with it and it worked to a point.
I'll plump for 6/10.
Great to see and chat with marjareen and Biggins, and Jill was conspicuous by her absence (although apparently she had sent her deputy!)

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I was sitting right next to them. Omg it was funny at mama as I was otherside of the room.valda wrote: At Shepherds Bush we weren't able to get in until 6.15, but started on time. Oh, and my Jamacian ladies were there, in the same row as me again. Thankfully they made fewer comments than at Mama
Omg when they weren't talking or jumping at the littlest thing they were eating popcorn so loud their bag was never ending. ( sorry it's one of my pet hates eating popcorn with ur mouth open not helped by the fact I hate the smell of popcorn. )
Now I know who they are I can make sure I'm not sitting there next time
I enjoyed the film. Love seeing London in a film but this film is too easily forgettable. Loved the scene with the nan ! Sounds good action scenes
The ending was predictable. And have the thinking they left like that so can make a sequel. But pleeeassse don't make it !

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Agree with what others have said that it was a bit too complicated a plot. The whole film had too much gun shooting with all the guns blasting away and making holes in the walls but never hitting their target!!
Watchable but not one I would recommend and not worth a second watch. 5/10

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Baddies who apparently use guns all the time, but couldn't hit a cow's posterior with a banjo for 90 minutes..........until the final shoot out of course!
Mark Strong and Johnny Harris were both threatening in their roles, but dear me, who cast James Smackaboy as a tough guy, gnarled copper?! He was about as threatening as a fluffy kitten!
It tried to be stylish, but failed miserably (apart from a nice glimpse of the Aurora Borealis), and I just wish Mark Strong would've done as Tiddles asked, when he said "Why didn't you kill me when you had the chance"..............would've saved us all 98 minutes we could've spent watching the awesome Barcelona!
