Re: Welcome To The Punch
As James McAvoys no.1 stalker i have to say this film was good! But i wanted to know more about Mark Strongs character and the film tidied up a bit more. Peter Mullen was good in this too.......
loved the amount of swearing! And poor sarah didnt last long!!
8/10
Preferred cinemas: Any in Edinburgh!

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Saw this last night and i thought there was some really good scenes and some good action. However what was the ending all about?? There was no ending in my opionion and i thought ruin the film a bit.. it ended before the story was concluded - we don't even know what happened to everyone.. so in some ways made the whole storyline a bit pointless..
Also always find listening to the British accent in a film really strange and amusing....

I agree with a lot of the muted opinions on here, but overall I enjoyed it.
Big fan of the 3 lead actors and after The Paperboy the previous night I think I would have enjoyed anything!

Re: Welcome To The Punch
I went to the screening yesterday with the hubby, was expecting the film to be boring but it wasn't too bad. It didn't live up to the expectation of a British movie and turned into a raging gunfire movie!! I quite like action thrillers but this is not how it happens here in Britain!! It put me off a little, don't get me wrong, I did like the film it just became another guns blazing movie with the obvious character at the centre of it all.

It has to be horses for courses then, because my friend and I both really enjoyed the film and came away wanting to see it again to understand more of the story. We both hated Cloud Atlas so seems like we are out of step with most other folk. The sound was excellent from the jazzy atmospheric start and I thought some of the shots of London and Iceland were very artistic, I'm thinking here of the shingle beside the Thames, now why is that still in my mind? One question though - is London so empty at night, where was everyone, the traffic, the clubbers, the shift workers and traffic? Is this true? We both agreed that we would be taking our o/h's once it was released because it would be right up their street too. Loved it!

I liked the music as well. It sort of reminded me of the Peter Greenaway soundtracks

What a load of rubbish. The director has got Ridley Scott producing, a decent budget, script control, a load of brilliant actors and London as his backdrop and this mess is the best he can do? Dire beyond reckoning.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Saw it at Odeon GReenwich, cinema was about 70-80% full.
I quite enjoyed the film, lots of locations I recongised (grew up around Canary Wharf) and the overall storyline was alright, albeit a little predictable by the middle.
Quite surprised to see a guy I 'know' from American TV drama The Walking Dead, and also Parking Pataweyo, from sketch show 'Harry & Paul' (was also in Black Mirror Series 1)

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Agree with Stuartboy lacked colour and tho not a James McAvoy fan do like Mark Strong, goes back to the Sharpe days when he was the dastardly Colonel Brand, he was in red then!!
Felt not enough of his character and too much of James knee. Rather him than me with the needle!
Glad I went to see it tho but came out missing something 6.5/10 from me
.
Nice to catch up with everyone on.

Re: Welcome To The Punch
Saw this at a 60% full Southampton Odeon on Tuesday; let it be noted that the toilets opposite Screen 8 were pretty disgusting on this occasion, the stench almost indescribable. Back to the film, the plot was too simplistic and predictable for me.
Lots of shooting but somehow a distinct lack of excitement. I rather enjoyed watching James puncturing his knee and squirting his joint fluid variously into coffee cups and ashtrays but only because he deserved to be stabbed repeatedly for accepting this role and his character's woeful dialogue. On a plus Mark Strong has great cheekbones, doesn't he.
5/10 for not utilising Andrea Riseborough, James McAvoy's sub-standard beard/moustache effort and for not just embracing the full extent of his wondrous Scottishness and giving us this awful mockney Cockney hybrid of an accent instead. I hope there is no sequel and have every faith that all the great actors who were in this will continue being great in other films.
