The Blind Side
Re: The Blind Side
Just seen this film in Manchester and I'm a bit undecided.
Whilst it was refreshing that it didn't tick off all the usual movie culture clash cliches, everyone just seemed just a bit perfect and therefore there was a lack of any real drama.
In fact some of the best moments were the touches of humour, its by no means a comedy, but it is quite lightly played.
All the performances were good, but I was expecting more especially after all the awards and nominations Sandra Bullock has received.
Is this seriously one of the best 10 films of the last 12 months?!
Plus the opening which refers to Lawrence Taylor (the other player on which half the source book is based) seems a bit tacked on as the rest of the story is purely about Michael Oher.
Overall, very watchable, but hard to shake the feeling your watching a well made "movie of the week" 6.5/10.

Re: The Blind Side
I have to say that I really enjoyed this film, especially as it was based on a true story, gave it more meaning than just being another hyped up hollywood film.
As an aside, I saw this in Bristol Cribbs and it was full to capacity - people even sitting on beanbags on the floor at the front (felt sorry for those people!) so think this was over subscribed as I'm sure people were turned away!

Re: The Blind Side
I saw this at Shepherds Bush, cinema was pretty full. The film was better than I expected, but still more of a 'True Life Movie of the Week' I thougth all the performances were good but I don't see how Sandra Bullock warranted an Oscar nomination for it. 7/10

Re: The Blind Side
I happened to find the Culture supplement of the Sunday Times on the train yesterday, and there was an interesting article about how The Blind Side appeals to the white, religious Republicans and Palin-supporters which I must say, shocked me a bit as I liked the film and I can't stand that Palin woman. I would have thought the film is more social criticism (how the Oher family was torn apart by social services and how they were prepared to let someone else adopt him without even telling his mother, and how a white family took a black kid into their home and overcame their prejudices). I admit there are some religious comments in the movie, most notably at the end, but I just rolled my eyes and forgot about it - I didn't think the film was quite so conservative?
Here's the article, what do you think?

Re: The Blind Side
Oh and I am sure you are all thrilled to know that the Greenwich Picturehouse is holding a Member's Free Preview for this on Sunday 14 March 11am so there will be most probably another SFF code for it somewhere sometime. When is this film actually reaching the cinemas, if there are previews up to the 22nd March?

IMDB still gives the UK release date as 12 March, so who knows what's going on!

Re: The Blind Side
Saw this at the Greenwich O2 yesterday, and was quite dissapointed. It really dragged and plodded along at a snails pace for most of the 2 hours and I thought the acting was really quite poor and not what I was expecting having read some of the reviews here. I know it was based on a true story but I wasn't expecting it to be quite as cheesy as it was either.
Never mind. 4/10 from me.
