Re: Good Vibrations
"A feel good movie in a strange kind of way" is the best I can do to sum up my opinion of this film.

Busy Edinburgh despite the snow storm at 6pm!
Really enjoyed this. I knew the John Peel and The Undertones story but never the involvement of Terri.
Brilliantly portrayed and acted. Thoroughly recommend to anyone who is a music fan or otherwise.
8/10 from us.

Awesome. Fricken awesome!
And soundtrack? What a soundtrack! Soundtrack of a childhood.
Loved seeing Mr. Peel too.
Lots of thought-provoking images and scenes. Biggest was a platform shoe on the road...
Perhaps only flaw was not giving us more characterisation of the various band members.
Loved this from begining to end. Yay!

Re: Good Vibrations
Had to laugh when I heard someone in Edinburgh say just as the Good Vibrations title came up, "Oh this is meant to be Trance. I think they've got it wrong." At least two people got up and went to tell them their mistake.

Re: Good Vibrations
Really enjoyed this! Have to be honest and say I didn't know a lot about the punk scene in Northern Ireland prior to the film, and so I actually feel like I learnt a lot from the film itself. Lots of thought-provoking scenes, and at times was uncomfortable viewing, particularly seeing all the violence which happened during that period in Northern Ireland. Really glad they did a preview of the film, as I doubt I would have seen it otherwise...

Re: Good Vibrations
I've done that before, but I was right - it was the wrong movie. I'd already seen the one they were trying to show us.stuartboy wrote:Had to laugh when I heard someone in Edinburgh say just as the Good Vibrations title came up, "Oh this is meant to be Trance. My biggest gripe though is the old odeon tactic of playing previews before the screening, making the end later that it should have been. I expect screenings to start at the published time, if they want to play previews also, then they should start up early. Its not as if we have anything else to do in the 30 minutes we wait for the movie to start.

Re: Good Vibrations
Saw this at the Trafford centre 90% full. Good film, great music. Plenty of nostalgia for me as I used to be a punk and a roadie. The scene where they all jumped in the back of the Tranny? van brought back some great memories.

Re: Good Vibrations
Hard for me to be objective about this film as I own the Rudi, Outcasts, Undertones singles(in the diy folded sleeves!)on the label. This was my youth, and I had a lump in my throat and tear in my eye as the waves of nostalgia crashed down hearing them again. I even remember listening to the Peel show when he played Teenage Kicks twice!
This isn't a film just about music though, I can't imagine what it was like living in Belfast during 'the troubles', and although the film did gloss over the conflict to a degree, it concentrated more on the notion that punk could unite - 'Belfast has the reason'
Terri Hooley was not without his flaws, but in general he was a damn good egg, and this film was a brilliant homage to him and those couple of heady punk years in the late 70's!
