Or maybe it missed the mark completely? Oh, the diversity of opinion. One man's trash is another's smash hit.

An action film that was a bit of a throwback to the movies of the 80s. If it had been made back then, Seagal, Stallone or Arnie would have been up for lead in this film.

My mate and I renamed it "Die Under the Hard Line of Siege Fire 24"!

Just watched it at Wandsworth and so glad I managed to find a friend lastmin to watch it with me. I give the film 7.8/10. I thought it was really good and didn't require any thinking (you know when you've had a long day at work and brain cells has gone to bed)...it's what you call a PROPER action film. There were some funny bits and I liked all the characters. I guess I have to use "spoiler" but
PHOAR when Gerald Butler was topless! :p
. Yeah it was gruesome but it wasn't just guns and only guns, good use of other weapons and hand-to-hand combat scenes. o/

I was initially disappointed at the lack of togas and ancient greece... having avoided trailers or any info I only had the title to go on. :shifty:

So no togas, just Gerard Butler doing a 'die hard' single-handedly saving the world (well america, but they consider themselves to be the world).

I thought the initial action sequence with the president's wife was good but got bored of the main ones, it was like being in a video game. For me I only need to see the start of the attack and then the result not every single kill in between. I would have preferred more Morgan Freeman and talking rather than so many long-drawn out actions scenes just made it drag for me. By the end they were taking it so seriously it came across as a spoof and started to find it funny, I just wish I'd taken an action-mivie cliche bingo card with me to help fill some of the time.

Oh and also I would have cared more if they'd used Martin Sheen as the president, or if they'd been in togas.

4/10

Couldn't agree more with previous posts, THIS was the Die Hard of 2013!

Saw this tonight in Glasgow and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of action and kept me entertained throughout. Gerard Butler was good but a bit hard to understand at times. OH thought the same.
An 8/10 from me.

mostly rubbish.

Not sure what the Die Hard comparisons are for, except perhaps that this is what Die Hard would be like in the hands of the worst director and worst storywriter in the world. This movie is so bad, its funny to watch. I cackled throughout most of the movie at the terrible plotting.

You can only justify watching this if -

1. you are drunk and/or treat it as a complete satire to be laughed at all the way through (none of which humour is intended by the movie btw).
2. you are happy to watch a very stupid movie so that you can enjoy the few loud, decent action sequences.
3. you are stupid.

But films like this, by and large, should not be made. You cant justify spending millions on something so stupid. And the really painful thing is, its actually a really good idea for a movie!

It was an ok action film. Also reminded me of Under Siege at one point and it was a bit 'Bad Guys BY Numbers', in other words very predictable and patriotic. I liked the way it all went down at the beginning, especially liked the kick-ass women.

Some of the action was a bit too gory and
when you seen one execution you seen them all.
Lots of stars spotting too. Entertained throughout. Only thing why does Butler need to put on an accent? 8/10
Gory?? There were plenty of deaths but hardly gory.

I'm actually quite insulted by this. I am not stupid nor was I drunk and I personally, didn't think it was a stupid movie.

It was flawed admittedly and if the US really do have some of those protocols etc in place, then Gawd help them if they are attacked but the film was a lot of fun, had very good performances, decent one liners to relieve the tension and the action didn't always rely on CGI.

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't give you the right to malign those of us that did.
