I enjoyed it!! I knew exactly what sort of film it was going to be and I don't usually like these sorts of films. I know it was far-fetched, but I actually did like it!! I am very easily pleased!!

Saw this last night in Wandsworth. It was much as I had anticipated - a cross between Die Hard and Airforce One but set in the White House. The Gerard Butler character was exactly the same as the Bruce Willis character, but with more hair. As expected, he saved the world. The plot was pretty far-fetched - although going by the headline in last night's Evening Standard "North Korea Rocket threat to US" - maybe it was not so wide of the mark. A good old action movie - if that's your bag. Definitely one for the boys! 5/10

Gerald butler tries to take over Bruce Willis throne and succeeds. Well done to the gruff Scottish bloke.
I did feel uncomfortable with all the American trash talk and there was some dodgy CGI throughout.
BUT... "I will put my knife in you brain" is one of the best lines that describes the film.

The Raid meets Die Hard meets independence day!

Well done for the director for keeping the blood and F-words pumping.
The assault on the white house was awesome, like a scene out of Call of Duty.

What about White House Down later this year? It sounds like a Harry Hill fight scenario. Which is better...

'Definitely one for the boys!'
Not sure about that - the two females I was with were salivating over Gerard when he was 'conveniently' topless!
As for the film - escapism tosh, that was surprisingly watchable! and the only one liner missing was 'Yippee Ki Ay'

Funny, I would have thought, " Let's play a game of f**k-off. You go first." , more appropriate :giggle:

You can only justify watching this if -

1. you are drunk and/or treat it as a complete satire to be laughed at all the way through (none of which humour is intended by the movie btw).
2. you are happy to watch a very stupid movie so that you can enjoy the few loud, decent action sequences.
3. you are stupid.
I agree with this 100%, I can't believe all the praise it's getting here. Have you all lost your minds?

Here's my full review: http://www.londoncitynights.com/2013/03 ... ed-by.html

It's not only an absolutely terrible film, it's also morally repellent.

Yep - the patriotic speech at the end was incredibly cringeworthy. Someone here likened it to Independence Day - it so seriously is nothing like it. Independence Day is a likeable if somewhat cheesy film with a lot of humour in it as well. And while it has pathos, it doesn't overdo it. When Bill Pullman holds his "This is our Independence Day" speech you want to cheer - when Aaron Eckhart held his speech at the end, I was ready to throw up. I am not judging anyone who likes it, I just don't understand how you can. This wasn't an action film, this was a terrorist/patriot slaughterfest with a very questionable message.

Not sure what the Die Hard comparisons are for, except perhaps that this is what Die Hard would be like in the hands of the worst director and worst storywriter in the world. This movie is so bad, its funny to watch. I cackled throughout most of the movie at the terrible plotting.

But films like this, by and large, should not be made. You cant justify spending millions on something so stupid. And the really painful thing is, its actually a really good idea for a movie!
To call people who like a film you don't "stupid", is really stupid!
