Like scootermcc, I'm just back from the Glasgow screening of 'Evil Dead'.

I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed! Having experienced the tepid, CGI heavy offerings of the remakes of John Carpenter's 'The Thing' and 'The Fog', I wasn't getting my hopes up about 'Evil Dead' until I saw the US red band trailer!

Having now seen the whole movie, I can testify that it lives up to the hype! The special effects are really well done and it's nice to see a horror movie that merits its "18" certificate and doesn't take any prisoners when it comes to the gore. I consider myself a fairly well-seasoned horror fan and even I was squirming in my seat at times!

The premise behind the group's trip to the cabin is realistic and makes it all the more plausible why they choose to remain when things start going wrong...

On a negative note, I thought the film still had a studio-set feel to it, when I was hoping for something a little grittier and less polished. However, in the grand scheme of things, this is a very small point against a fantastic horror film!

Or not.

Went to see this @ Cineworld Enfield and due to problems with the projector the film didn't start until about 7pm (we ended up being moved to another screen :wall: ).

Have to say that I thought this was a solid horror flick, it moved along at an agreeable pace & pretty much lived up to the promise shown in the trailers.

That said, it would have been better if it could have given me characters I could really care about and it would have been nice had the film makers decided to keep more of the 'best' moments out of the trailers (there were very few surprising moments contained in this movie's running time).

I also thought that the (very) short sequence at the end of the credits didn't work at all, it had nothing to do with the film itself and was there for no other reason really than to play to the die hard fans of the franchise.

However, & despite the above (minor) criticisms, I still really enjoyed this flick so overall it gets a 7/10 from me...

I saw this tonight at Shaftesbury Avenue. For the first time ever, I was asked for proof of ID. Just by looking at me, you can tell I'm (just) over 18!! They were only accepting printed tickets and the name on the ticket had to match your ID ... all I had was a text on my phone from my Dentist!! But they accepted that, as the names matched!!

While waiting to go in, some bloke asked if I would be alright, watching a horror film on my own (me being a 'woman' n all!!) .... I told him I had four kids at home - I was more than used to horror!!

This film was exactly how I thought it would be - a flimsy storyline, everything very predictable .. plenty of blood, gore, ripping of flesh and 'removal' of limbs!! It's how a horror should be. These types of films don't upset me, although some of the scenes were a bit 'yukky'!! Two young girls left half-way through.
