Re: Weight Watchers
Oh wow no wonder you were tired but the new regime is still pretty impressive, I've had to look up loads of it as haven't got a clue re martial arts. I did a self defence course on the judo/karate lines years ago but basically spent 2 hours a week for 12 weeks being flung around on a mat so I admire your stamina. In case anyone thinks I'm mad if I start something I never give up on it - sheer determination.
Just had a smoothie for breakfast and will be having sweet and sour chicken for dinner - no noodles or rice just chicken and veg. Please can I have your biriani recipe as I have made your curries and tandoori chicken and I must say they are so delicious and easy plus very economical.

Re: Weight Watchers
Hey Diane :)
Of course you can have the recipe :)
But 2 things before that , firstly , biryani is NEVER going to be easy, so please bare this in mind, but personally i think you should be fine with it , and secondly i'm going to be sharing a MASSIVE secret regarding biryani today :)
Ok so here goes
I believe you should have all the ingredients already but there is one thing you will need b*y which is the whole big secret
The secret is this
http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/ ... =256571265
you can find this in the spices section
This is the secret spice mix that most of the best biryanis contain and is used by MANY mums and aunties and even chefs ( this says a lot as this type of endorsement is near impossible to find amongst asian mums and aunties for ready mixed spices !)
Equally importantly there is a recipe printed on the back of the box and this recipe is the most authentic and best recipe you will find anywhere for good biryani , follow this recipe and trust me you will never go out for biryani again
Its quite straightforward but there is a bit more to do with biryani than there is for a curry so you will need a bit more time to make it but once its done its really going to be amazing meal that you will have made and will no doubt want to keep making it again and again , it also makes special occasions even more special .
Enjoy and if you get stuck or need any advice then message me at anytime :)

Re: Weight Watchers
I agree - the Shan mix is delicious. True biryanis take hours to make properly but if you have the patience and can get the layering technique right there is nothing like it.moviemannn wrote:Hey Diane :)

Re: Weight Watchers
also i just have to say , this biryani is not going to be particularly healthy , we usually have biryani on special occasions or if we have guests round or if we just fancy having something special sometimes . Please also note that the ready mixed packet does contain some artifical flavours and also some E numbers , so if all of this is not what your looking for then you could make an alternative which would be to make a curry like the recipes i have given but increase the onion and spice content to double and also increase the yoghurt content to about 1 cup (yoghurt is an essential ingredient) ,
Then once the curry is made , HALF cook about 2 cups of rice , then in large pot pour in half of the curry including half the meat , and on top of this pour on half of the half cooked rice and spread it out on top (do not mix in just leave it layered) then on top of this rice pour in the rest of curry ( basically a second layer) and then on top of this second layer of curry pour on the rest of the rice and spread (not mix in ) , so you will end up with 2 layers of curry and 2 layers of rice, cover the pot make sure its properly sealed and then place this pot into the oven and let it oven cook for about 30-45 mins .
Once you get the knack of this type of cooking and im sure by now you must be very proficient in this type of cooking, you can adjust the curry according to your own taste and preferance and make it a real dish of your own :)
good luck ! :)

Re: Weight Watchers
You are so right my mind is going on overtime and thinking of a spare day. I will try the Tesco mix for now but will try the other recipe in 2 weeks time - I'm out every night this week (1 cinema - Iron Man 3 premiere, 1 lecture, a meal plus 2 lots of working until 7 or 8) plus its FMUKON on Saturday so will need some energy for that and I will have a dusty house if I spend too long on my cooking plus I want to give it my best shot. I don't mind a few e numbers here and there so looking forward to making it already.

Re: Weight Watchers
Due to a weekend of gluttony (sorry to everyone for keep on eating the chocolate on Saturday
) which I thoroughly enjoyed I am ready to get back into the zone plus I have put on 2lbs so along with the 2lbs I still have to lose I have 4 weeks to lose 4lbs so it is very achievable if I stop scoffing. Sadly my exercise buddy has gone to Peru
but the lovely RickyRaj has promised to keep me motivated with his fitness pal (if I knew how to do it I would but I will learn
)
Menu of the day:
Smoothie with cows milk, raspberries and a banana (300 calories - I have weighed everything)
Poached egg on toast (200 or 400 calories depending on how late I will be working so that I don't snack etc as don't know as yet)
Tandoori chicken a la moviemann with a large salad and yoghurt dressing (400 calories) Weight watchers orange jelly and an orange. (70 calories)
Possibly a 200 calorie snack if I have only 1 egg at lunch or a Cadburys Options hot chocolate. (40 calories)
Exercise of the day will be a 4 mile walk or my exercise DVD depending on how late/early I finish.
Anyone else still on a health kick please keep posting.
I know moviemanns recipe is for tikka but I'm adapting it for tandoori instead and hoping it works out

Re: Weight Watchers
Just back from swimming in the outdoor pool at the gym. Great - no one else in so got it all to myself.
I am still yo-yoing with a lb on and off and can't seem to move on. Hopefully the weather is going to improve and will get walking more but I have so many meals out etc it is a losing battle.

Re: Weight Watchers
Well done on the swimming Biggins and I too keep gaining and losing these last few pounds due to socialising
Menu of the day:
Porridge (300 calories)
Banana sandwich on rye bread plus a weight watchers fromage frais (350 calories)
Large salad of mixed leaves including rocket plus peppers, cucumber, tomatoes and spring onions. 2 onion bhajis with yoghurt dressing (yoghurt, garlic (melted from frozen a la moviemann), mint and cucumber) and a teaspoon of mango chutney. This is extremely filling so its good. I need a recipe for homemade bhajis so if anyone knows of one please let me know. Thanks so much.
I will do a Tiffany workout as working late.

Re: Weight Watchers
Hey, I hope your tandoori turned out well! Although strictly speaking the only difference between tikka and tandoori is simply the cooking method, tandoori is cooked in a very hot tandoor oven whereas tikka is usually barbecued or cooked on a grill, please let me know how you 'tandoorified' (Diane65 wrote:Due to a weekend of gluttony (sorry to everyone for keep on eating the chocolate on Saturday) which I thoroughly enjoyed I am ready to get back into the zone plus I have put on 2lbs so along with the 2lbs I still have to lose I have 4 weeks to lose 4lbs so it is very achievable if I stop scoffing.
