The Look of Love
Couldn't find a thread for this film, so I thought I'd start one.
A true story about the life of Paul Raymond.

Re: The Look of Love
Just got back from the screening @ North Finchley and have to say, even though I was aware of the subject matter, I was pretty surprised by just how much flesh (99% female) was on display throughout
...it made certain scenes in 'Trance' seem pretty tame by comparison
.
As for the film itself, I thought it got off to a slow start but it got much better once we got past the showmanship of the central character. It wasn't a classic by any means but I did find watching this to be a reasonably worthwhile experience so overall it gets a 6/10 from me...

Re: The Look of Love
What a depressing film.
I have no idea if this is a biopic or fiction (despite the summary of lives at the end). I found it more entertaining to watch the models of Rolls changing through time as well as spotting the many different stars (obviously ignoring the bums and tits a-plenty!).
Thgis was more like a feature-length Steve Coogan comedy sketch for me I'm afraid.
6/10

Re: The Look of Love
There's an old English saying, 'All Fur Coat and no Knickers' very apt for this film. It looks great, got the period style and design down to a T. But, there's nothing really there. You just get treated to what comes across as small anecdotes from Paul Raymond's life. I learn't more from the closing credits than the whole film.
for me, it was really hollow and empty but that is probably what Winterbottom wanted. I reckon reading the book would be a better insight to the man, his life and the women in it. 7/10

Re: The Look of Love
I agree, it was very graphic and at times, I thought it was a little over the top. The film for me, got better as it went on, but overall was a bit of a let down and was easily forgettable.RAZORBACK wrote:Just got back from the screening @ North Finchley and have to say, even though I was aware of the subject matter, I was pretty surprised by just how much flesh (99% female) was on display throughout...it made certain scenes in 'Trance' seem pretty tame by comparison

Re: The Look of Love
Found this to be a pretty pointless film. Not much of a story, more like a documentary but with actors and what story there was wasn't very interesting.

Seemed more about the daughter than Paul Raymond. Would have preferred more of his background.

I agree, I felt it would have been good to see him before he became rich and maybe some of his childhood...Betty Botter wrote:Seemed more about the daughter than Paul Raymond. Would have preferred more of his background.

Re: The Look of Love
I don't like Steve Coogan so that wasn't a good start for me. A woman behind me was laughing loudly several times but the film didn't appeal to me at all. Not much of a story - just plenty of naked females and dirty men ogling them. Got a bit better nearer the end but only a 4/10 for me.
