Have you been before? I reckon the scenery will take your breath away! Not that ive been there myself but have been to other parts of the highlands and beyond. The furthest being Papa Westray in Orkney. I'm sure there will be a sign in John O'Groats as that place is famous for charity walks/cycles/runs - (or just for fun) the route is usually from there to Lands End or vice versa! Watch out for the bikers, their mental in the highlands lol cause they love the roads further north! Have a great time and i hope the weather picks up for you :cross:
Thanks chelle1973 ! I heard it snowed in Inverness yesterday but I'm an optimist packing my salapettes in case we can have a ski! Never been before but fully prepared to be blown away. I just hope our boat trips don't get cancelled. Catch you with you all in a week ! o/

Last night in Saint Petersburg. Seem like only yesterday we arrived here. As it is a package holiday we met different sorts of people on the plane and in the hotel.

When we arrived Jet2 puts us on three different coaches depending on which hotel we were staying in. Our coach was pretty full as it was the lowest budget out of all the hotels. Though they upgraded everyone fom the Ibis to the Park Inn as the former was overbooked. The coaches took us on a tour of all round the city but to be honest I was starving by the time we arrived at the hotel as we didn't p*y for the food on the plane.

The hotel is very nice, clean and new. As we don't need or room clean we just stuck the Zzz sign on the door so the housekeeper doesn't come in. Like most hotel rooms I find it very hot so the window is either open or air condition is on.

Friday evening we just had dinner in the hotel as we couldn't be bothered finding somewhere and we been up since 04:30. Hotel restaurant is a Bavarian pub. And like everywhere else somking or non smoking areas. Then it was an early night.

Breakfast in the hotel is nice enough. I usually have a full cooked breakfast, two croissants and a plate full of fruit as well as a fruit juice and tea. OH is fussy so tends to just a croissant and yogurt with fruit juice and tea or coffee.

Saturday morning there was a complimentary tour of The Hermitage which meant we didn't have to queue up. It is massive inside with lots of western art. We had a guide which was good.

Then Jet2 had organised several pa*d excursions of which we pa*d for a river cruise and the ballet. Both done on the Saturday. If I am honest I don't think it is worth the money. But as I hadn't pa*d for this trip it was ok. OH really wanted to see the Russian ballet but i think everyone was disappointed by the performance.

Today we didn't go on the pa*d excursion to Peterhoff. Instead we did our own thing and went on a massive long walk. OH reckons it was over 10 Miles. The hotel is at the bottom of Nevisky prospevt. We walked from there to the end. Then to isaac cathedral. Headed towards the embankment. Walked over the bridges where the sphinxes are. Pass academy of arts, zoological museum and naval museum. Cross the bridge. Went to Peter and Paul's fortress. Lunch nearby. Cross trinity bridge. Walked along the embankment to liteynyy most bridge. Went to Scottish bar in liteynyy prospevt. Had a non alcoholic drink in Abeerdeen, the Scottish pub. Then headed to the church on spilled blood. Went to the market there. Headed back to the hermitage. Took some photos. Headed back on the Nevisky prospevt and walked back down. Then we had dinner in TGI Friday in the galleria near the hotel.

Tomorrow OH wants to go shopping so there is a shopping mall nearby and the galleria too. Think she deserves it from all the walking today and the fact I have to ask her how much everything is.

The fact that you have a Bavarian pub in your Russian hotel cracks me up. :giggle:

Well I was going to say I was amazed by the TGI Friday! We went to St Pete back in 1988 with a 3 month old infant (who is in fact 25 years old today) and found it near impossible to get ANY food at all served to us because we were not in a group! We had to beg for them to offer us anything for just 2 people. Even the sight of our baby in a sling did not move them. So I guess the new Russia with TGI Friday, a Bavarian pub and Scottish pub would be unrecognisable to me. I should add that I was told by an American lady that our darling baby girl was the most beautiful thing in the Hermitage who was pretty amazed that we had made the trip with such a young babe.
