Now I have to find the motivation to get off the internet and go outside on this horrible day for some sprinting drills.
You don't ramble I too find you inspirational. I'm now on the hunt for Pace salsa, where do you get it from? Do you serve it with the salsa on the side or incorporate it into the dish? I haven't had salsa for ages no idea why not!
biggins wrote:Two pounds lost this week as I am back to the walking and still swimming. Sounds good but it is only the weight I had put back on in the previous weeks so will have to be stricter with the carbs if I want to lose more and get back into the old routine that lost me so much weight last summer. :cross:

Off to the Scottish borders today for my two night stay in a farm cottage that I won. o/ Going out at night for our evening meal both nights so will have to watch what I eat - I say that now full of good intentions but once there and I read the menu - what more can I say!

Well done Biggins that is brilliant and you have inspired me to move my body as sadly I have put on another 2lbs when I weighed myself this morning  I'm hoping that some of it is still last nights hotpot in my stomach. I have been lazy of late and been eating biscuits/sweets at work; in the doctors reception they have lots of goodies so if I have to go and see them about a patient I consequently have a biscuit, cake or sweet on each visit and I've been doing a lot of visiting lately. I've seriously got to get my act together otherwise I will be back to square 1 :wall: I will update my ticket to embarrass myself!

Hi Diane,

Thanks for saying so!

I get the Pace salsa from Costco and it's something like 14cals per tablespoon and so, can turn a fairly bland dish (like chicken and veg) into a tasty meal without jacking up the calories too much! I use it both as a sauce and a side.

I also find Frank's Red Hot sauce is a winner too because compared to many sauces and dressings, the calories in it are negligible.

Thanks so much for that I will certainly be giving it a go.

Due to my recent spell of gluttony and general laziness on the exercise front hence wobbly and put on lbs  I'm on the straight and narrow yet again  Just done my exercise DVD and how many times have I said that I shouldn't leave it so long in between exercising :wall: Gosh it was hard work! I've just got one night out that involves eating this week so even though I'm out every night the food should be OK just need to fit in some exercise somewhere.

Menu of the day:
Milkshake (I've been informed its a milkshake I have not a smoothie) with cow's milk, raspberries and a banana.
Lunch to be decided
Dinner is tandoori chicken made with ginger, garlic, natural yoghurt and tandoori spices with a salad followed by pineapple and natural yoghurt.

Thanks to John Milton for the reminder re water, I had 2 litres yesterday and had the best part of one already during my exercise. What's everyone else up to today? Keep posting and keep motivating each other o/

I need to get on the water today as I've put on 2lbs of water weight from yesterday from too much salt!
Yes don't rub your eyes, tis' me Moggers!!
I know if I drink plenty of water today and do some gentle exercise it'll be off for my 16 week anniversary. So far 20lb lost by diet and exercise, I have just under 8 weeks to lose my goal weight of a further 8lb (was well on track until this blip but I know it's just too much salt). Still doing my Tiffany work outs, kinect and work gym 5 days a week and starting to wear clothes that I was wearing before DS arrived but they fit better :) So I *need* you all to motivate me down to a healthy BMI and my goal weight for this cruise so I can enjoy the italian food on board!!

As regards my update

I have been doing a lot of swimming this week , our pool is 20m long and yesterday i did 80 laps freestyle non stop (well the occasional stop to readjust my goggles and swimming cap ) which works to about a mile , today i did a bit more and went all the way to 100 laps.

Dietwise i'm going to make another change this week, i'm going swap around what i have for dinner and lunch, so for lunch i will have a proper meal including carbs but dinner i will have my salads and chicken or fish (no carbs) i was advised today to not eat carbs at night because you dont really need it and wont be using hence will your body will probably end up storing it , also carbs during the day is important as you are awake and active and will be using it up.

I have also been having a new 'healthy treat' , ive been having it mid afternoon , its fat free greek yoghurt mixed with a teaspoon of manuka 10+ honey with added sliced banana , its sooooooo delicious ! and it will definately cure any dessert cravings if anyone has ! i think it might even make a very good breakfast , maybe add some granola to it .

The honey doesnt have to be manuka as i know its expensive but i have manuka as its a very good superfood and im glad to be able to incorporate it into my daily diet. I'm sure everyone knows manuka honey but if not then check it out on the net , its an amazing superfood ! also if anyone is fortunate enough to have an Aldi store nearby then you can b*y the 10+ strength there for about £4 a jar (compared to £8-£12 as most other supermarkets!)

Lets keep posting people and keep the motivation going :)

Great stuff, moviemannn! I haven't been swimming for quite some time and really miss it! Always good when you find a method of training that you can get stuck into!

As for Manuka honey, I'm totally with you on that. I take a teaspoon of it in the morning and find I have less colds and sore throats. I work in an office where there's always someone coughing or spluttering and I'm of the opinion the Manuka helps ward off the germs!

Another 1lb off for me this morning and so, sitting at an even 195lbs.

Welcome back Moggers and you have done so well. I too have increased my water intake but struggling on the exercise front this week due to working mad hours (booked way too many trips so working loads of hours so its all self inflicted and well worth it o/ ), after Friday's 12 hour shift I will be back to normal hours so can get exercising.

I will try the manuka honey as I've never tried it before and I do like honey o/ I'm impressed with your swimming moviemann 8O I'm rubbish at swimming

Well done John Milton the perfect way to lose weight o/

10 apps to keep you fit and healthy

The apps that deliver a health boost - from "instant meditation" to an app that offers you money for going to the gym.

A new app promises to calm users down in a matter of minutes - developed by the cult British developer behind the Million Dollar Homepage.

Alex Tew became a teenage internet sensation in 2005 when he launched the Million Dollar site, a web page where each pixel was "on sale" for a dollar.

His new app, Calm, promises to relax users instead.

Tew says: "It is a simple step-by-step program to teach people how to be calm, called 'The 7 Steps of Calm'. We don't use the word 'meditation' in the app as we think this is a barrier for most people who perceive it as difficult, or too spiritually orientated."

But there are plenty of apps that already deliver a health boost - from fitness diaries to apps that offer you money for going to the gym.

Below are 10 of the best.

Calm

Free, iOS

This free app offers a step-by-step guide to calming down - known as ‘The Seven Stages of Calm’. The Calm team now plan to add more programs in the next weeks and months including techniques to help people quit smoking, reduce social anxiety and increase creativity.

Juice Master 3-Day Detox

£2.99, iOS

“Juice Master” Jason Vale offers a rapid-fire version of his juicing diet here - an all-juice diet which has helped Vale sell 500,000 books in the UK. This three-day plan offers recipes for a three-day “detox” where you eat nothing but juices. Vale claims that the diet can can help users lose up to 5lb.

Fitsby

Free, Android

Fitsby uses a rather unique method to persuade you to visit the gym - gambling. Fitsby lets you 'compete' against friends, by betting that you'll visit the gym a certain number of times. You test this by checking in at your gym, using a Foursquare-style GPS login on your phone. If you go, and your friends fail, they p*y you. If you don't go, you p*y them.

Aquafresh Time2Brush

Free, iOS

This app is a fun way to remind children to brush their teeth properly - with a cartoon blob of toothpaste reminding children to brush each quadrant of their mouth. Music plays as children brush, and a timer reminds them to switch - brushing wins points which can be used to b*y hats and other add-ons for the coach.

Food Diary and Calorie Tracker by MyNetDiary

£6.99, iOS

This all-in-one fitness and diet app logs both what you eat and the exercise you do - and offers easy-to-use graphs to steer you towards long- and short-term weight loss goals you set yourself. Unlike many fitness apps, it has calorie readings and fat counts for foods from British stores such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco, ASDA and Marks and Spencer - and if you have iPad Mini, you can scan barcodes instead of typing in information.

Runtastic Pushups Pro

£1.49, iOS/Android

This simple, focused app is a training guide - complete with voice coach - which helps beginners towards a goal of being able to do 100 push-ups. The routine will take you to your goal in just eight weeks as long as you stick to the daily workouts. Graphics are simple, and it works well on both iOS and Android. The workouts use proximity sensors in phones or tablets - or just touching your nose on the touchscreen - to push you towards the goal of doing 100 in a row.

Change4Life Drinks Tracker

Free

Worrying that you might be drinking more than the safe number of units of alcohol - or unsure of what a unit even is? This NHS app lets you log your drinking in a daily diary, and shows a graph of how your drinking ebbs and flows during the week. The graph turns red if you are drinking too much. The app also offers advice such as, “If it’s in the house, you’re more likely to drink it.”

Sleep Bug Pro: White Noise Soundscapes

£1.49

Sleep Bug Pro is a hi-tech way to ensure you drop off. The hit app - downloaded 400,000 times - offers a series of “soundscapes” including a 'white noise' player (great for getting very young children to go to sleep) which can be set on a timer to give you time to drop off. There are two dozen soundscapes on offer, each tweakable with individual sounds such as wind chimes and waves.

Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking

£4.99, iPad

Attentive smokers will be wondering how on earth anti-smoking guru Allen Carr recorded the videos in this new app - Carr, of course, died of lung cancer in 2006. The historic clips are a great way to get to know his unique ‘easy way’ to stop, though, with an 80-minute tour of his hit method delivered in talking-head form by Carr himself.

iYoga

£1.49, iPad/iPhone

This great-looking app offers a scientific insight into what yoga poses actually do to the muscles inside your body, with a 3D animated body minus the skin walking you through yoga poses, with coloured highlights to show which muscle groups each one affects. It’s designed to complement yoga lessons and help beginners advance their knowledge. The app has 81 Basic poses built in, with a further 124 Intermediate and Advanced poses available via in-app p*rchase for £1.49.
