Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
went to see the understudy performance of Yes Prime Minister yesterday. It was cracking stuff, and Richmond theatre is a huge grand place. If the unders are this good the show must be worth its ticket prices - not sure if that follows but it was a great afternoon (unfortunately went to a rubbish wedding later ahemm less said better)
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I thought some might be interested in this free event at The Almeida. Not performance but discussion:
Having A Play
Playwrights on Playwriting in the last 25 years
A Panel Discussion
Thu 6 Jun 2013
Playwrights Alecky Blythe, Lucy Kirkwood, Conor McPherson and Nicholas Wright discuss playwriting at a free panel event.
Celebrating 25 years of publishing, Nick Hern Books have invited four exciting playwrights to discuss new trends and themes in drama and how new plays reach the stage.
Lucy Kirkwood’s latest play Chimerica premieres at the Almeida on 20 May 2013. Conor McPherson’s highly acclaimed play The Weir has just been revived at the Donmar Warehouse. Nicholas Wright is the author of many original plays as well as adaptations and co-author with Richard Eyre of Changing Stages: A View of British Theatre in the 20th Century; Alecky Blythe’s work includes the recent National Theatre hit, London Road.
Conor McPherson on 'Having a play'...
'Recently Sebastian Barry said to me that Brian Frield told him that for a playwright to have a play is everything. What 'having a play' means is that you have an idea you are thinking about, wondering about. You have a world whose chaos you can comprehend and even seek to control - a prism wheereby the lunacy and violence of life is transformed into a beautiful poetic painting, full of motion and feeling.'
From My First Play: An Anthology of Theatrical Beginnings
The panel will be chaired by the Almeida’s former Artistic Director, Michael Attenborough.
The event starts at 5.30pm. Tickets are free but must be booked in advance.

We went to udderbelly festival yesterday with a crowd from work
Although not free we all went for the cheap seats (£10) to see limbo
(But it wasn't too busy so they let us sit anywhere. Great we go 3 rows from front )
It was good fun recommend it for a cheap night out only last 1hour20
Few acts were really good. Still singing the opening tune in my head this morning.
This is there advert.

Advert kind of shows everything that was good. But few little surprises to couple of the acts.
Don't want to give any spoilers for others. As one point I did jump
If u like cantina last year u will like this.

Really gutted I don't live in London, really want to go see ADF!
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender asks, "Why the long face?"
A pony walks into the bar and whispers, "I'll have a beer, please." The barkeeper asks, "Why are you whispering?".
"I'm a little hoarse."

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I went to see 'Wuthering Heights' this afternoon at Fairfield Halls. Five Actors played all the characters of the Play and narrated the story between them. A very basic Production, but acted very well. The story was explained so even if you weren't familiar with 'Wuthering Heights', you understood what was going on.
There were a couple of 'naff' points... every time a punch was thrown or a slap to the face, the actors played in slow-motion!! And every time someone died, they were hidden by one or more huge black umbrellas, held by the other actors, while the 'dead' character backed away!! Also, to get the effect of the mist on the moors, a smoke machine was used and at times went into overdrive!!
All five actors were constantly on stage. They remained seated to the side of the stage if their character wasn't in the scene, but at all times focussed on the scene that was being acted.
All five actors were very good, 'Heathcliff' in particular, played by Mark Homer who played Tony Hills in EastEnders.
Thanks to canadian_turtle for posting the Code!!

I add my thanks to canadian_turtle for posting the Code for Wuthering Heights. I too saw it yesterday afternoon and concurred with jojojoanne re the performance. Read the book years ago. Glad to be reminded of the plot.

Personally am not keen on MUSE
but I gather they are quite popular...
So if you're a fan, look out for free tickets for a special live performance in London after the World War Z premiere on June 2nd.
Tickets are released 9am Tuesday 28th May.

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I saw West End Men on Saturday. I loved it - a big fan of Matt Willis, he's doing so well for himself and his voice is coming on nicely. David Thaxton is one of my fav musical theatre stars so he is the reason why I went
So I didn't realise you had to get the tickets before 7pm so was really worried we wouldn't get in. the box office staff were lovely and just gave me the tickets. Great seats, Row F in the circle. Fantastic view and good rake.
The theatre is nice and intimate so it was a good place for such a show. There was a mixture of Show tunes, pop and a some medleys. As it was the first night the 'banter' and in between song moments were a bit hesitant, but I can imagine in a few weeks, they will be ragging each other, and bantering more with the audience.
Great night out and a beautiful programme for the memories
