Come As You Are (Hasta la Vista)

A very low key charity premiere at the Curzon Mayfair tonight, as often is the case for foreign films. At least they had a tiny bit of red carpet at the entrance, which Populaire never did. All the celebs went into the bar and the rest were told to go upstairs.

I had some really good seats, right in the centre of the screening room, a few rows from the front. The lady from RNC who sent me the tickets actually sought me out in the cinema to say hello. That was rather nice of her. She told me the whole row was for RNC. Shame the premiere was so early, as there were quite a lot of empty seats. Lovely to see so many FMUKers supporting this. There was a bit of PR exercise before the film started, and the actors and writer turned up after the film to do the Q&A. The Founder, Asta Philpot, was also in the audience, whose real life experience the film was based on.

A road trip with a difference, funny and sad, an emotional and touching drama, beautifully shot, well acted and very real. A very believable story, and I really rooted for them. 8/10

After the Q&A, I had a brief chat with the actors, and also got a lovely photo with them.

This was utterly delightful and much better than the short summary makes it sound. Oftentimes as charming and funny as Untouchable and Starbuck, but also poignant and sad (I did shed a tear or two) as British gem Third Star (which has a similar storyline in that it also centers on a road trip of a group of young friends where one is very ill and disabled because of this).

The three leads were all brilliant and really believable in their portrayals of the various disabilities, you wouldn't think twice of them being disabled if it weren't for 1 scene in the film (and the fact we saw them at the Q&A afterwards where they appeared perfectly able).

Saw this a few weeks ago at a press screening. Thought it was pretty good stuff, although I wasn't a big fan of how they treat the sex workers in the film. I do like how the 'disabled sex comedy' genre seems to be growing though, but this wasn't a patch on The Sessions - which was much better.

Not everyone can make it to Mayfair for 6pm on a weekday. I certainly wouldn't have been able to hence I never entered any comps for this.

That is why I said it is a shame the premiere was so early. Bad scheduling, don't they know that some people do need to work!

I wonder if the early slot was the only time they could get at the cinema? It did start promptly which was a surprise to us. We also liked the film-- a good mix of light and dark and very engaging.

Talk about convincing performances. I was actually surprised finding the guys portraying the three male leads are in real life free from their characters' disabilities. Heartwarming story and a kind of 'realness' often missing from big productions made for a touching, funny, and at times a bit infuriating film.

Excellent film with a touching and funny story. Wonderful performances from the three leads and support, especially the nurse and the little sister.

I'd never been to the Curzon Mayfair before so it was an extra treat to watch it in such a lovely screening room.

I too was at the Curzon Mayfair for this. Found it a really touching and funny film, and was, like the other posters here, completely unaware that the three protagonists were in fact able-bodied. The acting was very convincing and some of the situations (for example in the first hotel, with the key card) really made you stop and think what it must be like to be disabled in an able-bodied environment. The film reminded me in parts of "Inside I'm Dancing" and "Untouchable". It was really nice that the three leads all turned up for the Q&A session and they were all charming - and completely fluent in English. A shame that there were so many empty seats, especially in the "reserved" 2nd row, which was completely empty. A really good film about a touching subject. 9/10
