Just got back from Vue Piccadilly tonight too.

Wow what an amazing film. For me the film blew me away. It was a mash up of art house, documentary and thriller all rolled into one 'heist' film.

There was tension that was ratcheted up for the finale though it did slightly drag at the start of the film. I was expecting more of 'The Raid' type of film but this was quite a thoughtful and well told story that could have been set anywhere.

Yes, it was subtitled but please do not let this put you off. My favourite film of the year.

The Q&A was fun and insightful too.

Full review later.

10/10

Won tickets for this and was first in two minds about going, not because of the subtitles, but because of the late start - 8pm is when I like my films to end, not begin. I am glad I went though. I really really enjoyed this and it was lovely to see many familiar faces tonight.

The story of this young family struggling to survive and moving to Manila for a better life had me gripped from the start. After some setbacks it seemed that at least the man had bagged himself a decent job, but his troubles were just about to begin. This was such a lovely family and you really routed for them as the tension started to go up a notch all the time.

It was lovely to get a Q&A with the director and the main actor afterwards, who both seemed amusing and down to earth.

I wish this film the best of luck distribution-wise - did someone say an American remake might be in the offing? That would be a terrible shame as it's great and charming as it is.

It was me that asked that question. o/

Yes, it would be a shame but if they got Martin Scorsese to do it and he did a great job of 'The Departed' which was a remake of 'Infernal Affairs' then that would be ok. Somehow I have little faith in Hollywood.

Good reviews it seems. Sad I didn't have time to see this today but I'll definitely catch it at some point now, it looks like my kind of film. o/

I really enjoyed it as well. It held my attention from the start and I am still thinking about it now - which is a good sign. o/

haha, much better than mine, well he is a professional and was sat in the front, while I was at the back with very little light!

Really enjoyed this film, so unexpected, a tense heist, thriller and family drama, all rolled into one! Filmed like a documentary, the performances were superb, the shots were beautifully done, and your heart goes out to the family, you can feel the seediness, the awful slums, feel their desperation. 9/10

I hope this film will do well too.

The Q&A was so entertaining. The director, Sean Ellis and the lead actor, Jake Macapagal, were killing themselves laughing so much, that they could hardly tell their funny stories of filming in the Philippines! Our own tsoiboy asked a couple of very good questions. Then all too soon it was over and we mingled with the director and the lead actor. I tweeted afterwards and Jake favourited, re-tweeted my tweets, and is now following me!

This was an absolutely excellent film from beginning to end.
Having read some of the reviews, I am surprised to note that there were so many fmukers in the audience at the Vue Piccadilly. I guess there are many people I am yet to meet and hope to do so in the future.

This film was beautifully shot and the characters had me believing them & feeling their desperation throughout.

It was great to see both the director, producer, cinematographer, Sean Ellis and the main actor in the Q&A afterwards. They both were amusing and a good conversation was had, however it's rather disconcerting to hear that there may be an American remake! 8O Don't do it!

Although it started late, all in all it was an excellent evening.
One of the best films I've seen this year 9.5/10
