White House Down

#1 Post by caitlinmorton » Sat Sep 14, 2013 12:12 am

Saw this tonight with a Sky voucher and found it about 559385478547367x better than Olympus Has Fallen, despite the fact that its almost the exact same movie. Its funny, but in an intelligent way, and while there were a couple of small issues I had with it, they didn't take away from the film for me.

Jamie Foxx does a great POTUS. Emmerich did a great job.

I enjoyed this far more than I expected to. It is cheesy and implausible but it's main success is that it doesn't take itself too seriously, I especially liked the banter between Tatum and Foxx. It is slightly overlong but with decent action sequences and some well timed one-liners, I did get carried along for the ride. 7/10.

Went to see this earlier this evening and (as above) was pleasantly surprised to find this was much better than I was expecting it to be.

The banter between Tatum & Foxx was very enjoyable (although not quite as good as the banter between Wahlberg & Washington in 2 Guns) and despite it having a running time of 131 minutes it didn't drag at all time wise.

Overall I much preferred it to 'Olympus Has Fallen' and it did just enough to get an 8/10 from me o/ ...

I saw this on Friday and would agree with this, lots of parts similar to Olympus, just done a bit more lighthearted, shame they were released in the same year as bound to get compared, 7/10 from me as well.

Saw it Friday night with a friend, after seeing an embargoed Stallone/Schwazenegger flick, fully expecting it to be a night of dumb and potentially awful action films.
Was delighted to find that White house Down was as much dumb fun as Olympus Has Fallen, with James Woods doing some enjoyably crazy stuff, Lance Reddick being as good an exposition-explainer as Andre Braugher tends to be, and Richard Jenkins making some very strange noises by the end.
Oh, and the action was dumb, badly CG-ed and utterly enjoyable. Laughed at it a lot, but it was a good laugh.

Ridiculously big dumb fun, the mix of patriotism, one liners and action is certianly similar to the great Independence Day.

So much better than Olympus has Fallen, which was a bit grim by the end with all the stabbings in the head.

Left the cinema with a big grin on my face, thanks to akh43 for the tickets. o/ 8/10

Just home from seeing this.
I did enjoy this film but felt too long. Could have shorten by half an hour
Quite good tho
Few funny parts but for me not as good as Olympus has fallen

Why do they release the same looking film every now and then? This looks very cheesy compared to fallen Olympus.

Considering how bad the trailer made it look, I enjoyed this more than I expected.

All the cheese of Olympus, but more charisma (that happens when there's no Gerard Butler). The plots as expected were pretty much identical, but I enjoyed this a little bit more than Olympus

Similar film to Olympus has fallen but with a bit more comedy . I would say they were on the same par.

It was fairly ridiculous storyline but a load of fun. Kept me on the edge of my seat.

Enjoyed the car chase scene round the fountain.
