Saw this in a busy Dunfermline tonight as we wanted to see the 3D effect. getting there took a while. but coming home was a breeze.

The film was as everyone said visually stunning.... George as ever, well could listen to him all night and Sandra Bullock was surprisingly good, not the usual glamour lady.

Thought the story was, in parts, weak and although glad I went to see if because of all the hype and the 3d and of course George, would I recommend the film for itself i.e. in 2D, probably not

5/10 for film, plus 1 for George and 1 for 3D 7/10 from me.

Really enjoyed the trailer for Mr Banks so have high hope for that!!

Saw this tonight at WIQ. Lovely to see Beate and PXC tonight.

Not much to add really except a really exciting and gripping film. Sandra Bullock was surprisingly good in this.

We weren't let into the screen at Odeon Kingston until just before 6.30. We were then told the film had arrived late due to the storm earlier and there would be a delay while it was being loaded into the system. After one failed attempt they tried again. By 7pm we were told it could take another 30 mins by which point I'd decided not to bother sticking around. Along with those that had made the same decision I was offered a comp ticket instead. While that was happening we were told they'd abandoned the screening entirely. So no Gravity at Kingston. Thankfully I'd already seen it at the BFI IMAX during the LFF so I wasn't too upset. Bit of a wasted evening though.

Wow, loved this! Visually amazing and very tense throughout. Sandra Bullock was brilliant. First time I have known an audience to sit in silence for the entire film - no rattling, slurping or other noises usually associated with a night at the cinema. Edge of the seat stuff for 90 minutes!
Definitely needs to be seen on the big screen, especially in 3D. 9.5/10

I wish I could say I liked it but too many laws of physics were broken. I suppose that if they actually obeyed the laws there wouldn't be a movie.
I could list all the problems but would involve a lot of text in spoiler tags.
I will however say this much, space is big, very very big, and any exploding satellites will spread out over an enormous volume - especially in orbit. The highest concentration of debris will be in the same orbit as the original satellite and will settle into a ring. In order to threaten other satellites with the level of destruction shown, the first satellite had to be made of around 1,000 missiles each with an individual target in massively different orbits, which were then triggered on their paths by the first missile.
Nothing less could explain why so many satellites were destroyed.

The actual threat from debris in orbit is from something like a flake of paint (the bigger stuff is tracked by radar from the ground) hitting a satellite and ruining the electronics. The satellite is effectively wrecked but remains a single piece in an unchanged orbit.
The propellant used in satellites is a stable substance as you don't want it to blow up at an inconvenient moment. Even if both tanks (propellant and oxidiser) were punctured together, you would only have outgassing effects into vacuum.

In order to wreck another satellite by exploding it would require a massive impact, something like a cannon ball would be needed to do that. Something small would just punch a hole, you need a large surface area to impact as much momentum as possible to create an explosion. Even then what happens depends largely on where you hit and with what.

Put simply, either the world was about to go to war or those events couldn't happen.

Stunning! Simply breathtaking.
What an amazing opening scene that must have run continuously for 30 minutes fluidly. Occasional blasts of 3D for me too which I never usually experience, such as cables snaking towards you or screwdrivers floating out of the screen. What a perfect vehicle for 3D if ever there was one. Story was a bit meh though. Not a lot happened, but enjoyable none the less. I don't remember much in the way of a soundtrack, so certainly no 2001: A Space Odyssey, but thought the sudden silences very effective indeed in emulating the silence of space, vacuum, and also under water.

We saw it in Guildford and again the first five minutes were spoiled because there was no 3D, until someone told the projectionist. Cinema only 70 per cent full, despite girl taking tickets asking us not to leave any gaps between seats because full up.
Enjoyed the film, but expected more.

Saw this in Basingstoke, not very full which did surprise me. Was really looking forward to this, but turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Good, but not great as I was expecting, there has been a lot better films this year. Again, the start was not in 3D, and for some reason there were some lights that weren't turned down fully. Also, really don't rate 3D, films like this should really showcase it but they always seem to disappoint, I think this will work just as well without the 3D effects. Will give it another go in the comfort of my own home in a dark room when it's released, but a disappointing 5/10 for me.

3D - very good. The views of earth were particularly beautiful.
Clooney - Excellent. Really liked his astronaut banter.
Bullock - OK.
Story - Enjoyable. Plenty of drama.
Physics - Variable. Extremely dubious in places. [spoiler]For example, the thrust from a fire extinguisher will not reduce your relative speed by 100 mph with a few puffs![/spoiler]

7/10 overall.
