JGL was excellent and the other characters were good too - maybe not to everyone's taste - a bit like Filth but i would recommend giving it a go.

Solid 6.5/10 from me. o/
I agree too, there was more too it if you look past the porn. It reminded me of Jersey Shore, only the 'guidos' on there are 10 times as bad.
6.5/10

I feel like it isn't for everyone, and its maybe not clear to people (especially the ones who like to go in knowing nothing about a film), but I think everyone should give it a chance.

Going to see it again tonight. Can't wait!

Saw this in a very full Greenwich Odeon last night. I thought this was pretty reasonable as JGL's directorial debut & the fact that he wrote & produced this.
Also the acting was pretty good all round. 6.5/10

This was so dull.

Whilst I have always liked JGL as an actor, having seen this, I doubt that he has a flair for directing or writing, both of which were pedestrian.

And how on earth does someone take 2 of the most beautiful actress around & make them look this bad ?

disappointed 3/10

This wasn't all that good, was it?
I never thought I'd say this, but did it have to have so much swearing in it? The moment my lovely Tony from Who's The Boss opened his mouth and started swearing like a sailor, I thought "Oh no. You have just killed my childhood." The gratuitous porn stuff was annoying but far more irritating to me was watching father and son sit around the dinner table in white vests only, behaving like dinosaurs. Bruce Willis can maybe pull this off - they can't. And on Sunday we're in church and all sins are forgiven. Great. Didn't think it was all that funny either.

The film did redeem itself once Julianne Moore turned up and brought a bit of class and great acting into the mix. She alone is the reason I am not dissing the film totally. Unfortunately she doesn't get enough screen-time and the film's abrupt end feels like cheating us out of more scenes with her. But yes, loved how the daughter texts all the way through the film right to the end where she opens her mouth and comes out with an astonishingly astute observation, proving she has pa*d attention after all. And that she can speak.

6/10

Seems like a lot of you found this really repetitive and were left unsatisfied at the climax.

Absolutely hated this. Poor Julianne Moore -- she really did not deserve such a poor film. And honestly people in New Jersey are so much better than most of these morons. Writing, directing and then starring -- well Joseph Gordon-Levitt certainly thinks a lot of himself. Pity the end product was dire. I was amazed by the laughter in the Trocadero today -- some people found everything hilarious -- they even laughed when Julianne Moore told her family history which was definitely not funny.

Debated between seeing Don Jon and Dom Hemingway tonight.

We went to see Don Hemingway - wrong choice. Even after all the comments about Don Jon it sounds better than what we saw!

I loved it actually. 5/5 stars from me - I find it a little odd that some people here have hated it so much.

I'll pop up a full review tomorrow.

Julianne Moore is one of my favourite actresses. Her presence in the movie made it work for me. My only complaint was that she wasn't in the movie long enough.

Also, forgot to say that we had a wait of about an hour and fifteen minutes before our cinema got their act together and actually played the movie. Being concerned for the main man's work tomorrow morning, I wasn't going to wait past the hour (especially when I checked this website's reviews before I went), but the main man made a decision and decided that he wanted to watch it. Ended up that I liked the movie better than him, and we were compensated (two free tix), to boot. So great night overall. I can understand that this won't be everyone's cup of tea, and why there are such varying reviews.
