Re: Don Jon
I love JGL. 50/50 is probably one of my favourite films.
However, this was... yeah... pretty out there. I think i enjoyed it. I dont really know what to think!!!
JGL is one lucky guy. The scene with him and Scarlett Johansson at her room door. Lucky guy... lucky...guy!!!

Re: Don Jon
Problems with the start in Cardiff - only sound, no visuals. Was this a ploy to gain our interest....NO just a tech problem.
However, this did give the film a certain something which could have led to a insight to the subject. Yes there was a lot of swearing, yes there was porn..ish stuff and yes the sight of Joey threw me for a while... but wait, there was a story, of sorts to deal with. There is a problem with the way people deal with relationships, the things I hear from young people are so contradictory, they want a fairy story (for girls)and an ideal that is about self and not the working towards becoming a supportive pair.
Got to say, had tears in my eyes today after my OH did a simple thing FOR me, no asking on my part. This film was making me think .... work in progress I think
Back to the film, the main females had such different characters, the beautiful but....., the enduring mother...., the (under and somewhat thrown in) older woman. Best was sis who held back till she was needed, a few spoken lines which made all the difference.
Pity about the loud mouthed person behind us who just distracted everyone.
A bit of a marmite film from what I've read so far.
6/10 maybe another viewing would bring up the score

Re: Don Jon
I agree with every word! Hated the too much swearing, so in your face. JGL is no Bruce Willis, loved Julianne. The daughter was funny. However, it was profound, about addiction and selfishness! 6/10Beate wrote:This wasn't all that good, was it?
I never thought I'd say this, but did it have to have so much swearing in it? The moment my lovely Tony from Who's The Boss opened his mouth and started swearing like a sailor, I thought "Oh no. You have just killed my childhood." The gratuitous porn stuff was annoying but far more irritating to me was watching father and son sit around the dinner table in white vests only, behaving like dinosaurs. Bruce Willis can maybe pull this off - they can't. And on Sunday we're in church and all sins are forgiven. Great. Didn't think it was all that funny either.
The film did redeem itself once Julianne Moore turned up and brought a bit of class and great acting into the mix. She alone is the reason I am not dissing the film totally. Unfortunately she doesn't get enough screen-time and the film's abrupt end feels like cheating us out of more scenes with her. But yes, loved how the daughter texts all the way through the film right to the end where she opens her mouth and comes out with an astonishingly astute observation, proving she has pa*d attention after all. And that she can speak.

Saw this on Monday and really enjoyed it. It's funny, it's thoughtful, it's got a good concept, and it's very stylishly filmed. 8/10

Hi guys, I'm new here, pleased to join in the community!
I went to see this last night, got to say I left a little disappointed. Whilst I knew it would certainly be edging towards the "arty" side of film making I was hoping it would at least develop that quirkiness leading to some laughs. Honestly, I barely managed more than a titter. Whilst the acting was excellent, the dialogue relatively well written and the focus on porn was interesting, I have to say that I felt this film didn't really go anywhere which made it a tad boring. Won't be in a rush to watch it again but glad I saw it all the same. 6/10

Tempo tissues are very good so I'll make sure I have a packet handy for those around me . . .you know who you will be!
