The Diary Room

Re: The Diary Room
I have been planning this for months, and waiting impatiently for the retailer to receive stock of my chosen model, but at long last I am the bemused and wary owner of a tablet, so I may yet move belatedly into the 21st century...
The only two people of my age whom I know to have tablets both had help in using them from children/grandchildren, whereas I have neither. I did order an idiot's guide which turns out to be absolutely MASSIVE and therefore almost more intimidating than tackling the tablet itself. No kidding, it's over 300 pages long.
I expect that if you are used to smartphones, using a tablet is similar, or vice versa, but I don't (yet - and one thing at a time!) have a smartphone either. I do however have an OH and a sister who do, so maybe between them they can tutor me.

Re: The Diary Room
Congratulations, Ms Thrifty! I've got the phone but not a Tablet. I wish you and your tablet many frustrating hours as you try to figure out how to do something. . . only kidding!
I'm sure you will cope just fine and will have great fun discovering something new every day.
You'll be an expert in a short while!

Good luck Ms Thrifty and I'm sure that you will get used to it very soon. I don't have one or a kindle as although a do see the benefit rather than carrying a heavy book (which I still do) but do have a Galaxy ace which is as much as I want as I'm so last century.

Thank you for the good wishes, ladies, and I am certainly IT'd out for the day, and that was just with trying to connect the blighter to our home wireless - had to spend ages on the helpline AND use my laptop to check stuff. What with that and juggling the tablet and the idiots's guide.... I need to go and lie down with a glass of mulled wine, except that I have to drive to the cinema later so can't indulge!

Just started playing the guitar again (after a year off). I'm never stopping again! I realise I now have weak kitten hands, it's outrageous how much difference it has made not playing for that long. To strangers, for at least a week you will know me by the claw of my pulped left hand

Re: The Diary Room
I was feeling bad about being stuck indoors with no fresh air or exercise today, but having just been out briefly, I'm less regretful - it's pretty cold and overcast, so not at all conducive to lingering outdoors. In fact, just the weather to warm up with some mulled wine, and I have a good stock on hand!

Eek, there is suddenly thick fog over East London. When did that happen? It looks eerie...

I'm not sure how old you are and would certainly never ask a "lady" her age, but in case it makes you feel any better about your upcoming tablet adventure, I thought I would let you know that I have not only got a tablet for my 75 year old mother for her Christmas but also for my 84 year old father who is a complete technophobe who has never even sent a text on his mobile phone! Before you accuse me of some kind of mental cruelty, let me assure you that this was at his request! He had seen my daughter and I using ours and has now become convinced that he has to have one in his life and so he has one on order from Santa. In fact he asks me almost every day if he has to wait until Christmas to take ownership of it! I'm not sure how long it will either a) take him to become bored/frustrated with it ......... or b) become an expert in its use.
I shall let you know in due course whether it was a good decision or not and you can do the same!
