Saw this in Hong Kong on Friday morning. It only cost us 65 HKDs which is just over £5. It was cheaper in the morning.

OH loved it and said it was almost the same as the book. I was left with a lot of questions which I think would have been answered in the book. Decent enough sequel to the first. 8/10

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

stuartboy wrote:Saw Catching Fire today and was blown away! Brilliant. Totally immersed in the story and the setting. Never noticed 2 1/2 hours fly by. Loved it so much that I felt short-changed when it seemed to stop suddenly without ending. I know it is part 2 of a trilogy, but even still...does the second book end as abruptly? And will it really be 2015 before we see the final episode?

10/10
It does end exactly that abruptly. If I didn't have the third book ready to read I'm not sure what I would have done. The final book is being made into 2 movies a la Harry Potter and Twilight. So Part 1 November next year and Part 2 in 2015. Because they like to see us squirm. I need more Hunger Games NOW!!!

Definitely one of the best adaptations ever for me. It kind of felt like watching the book, they hit all the marks, casting was flawless and even though I knew exactly what would come next, I was at the edge of my seat. The only thing I can complain about is ... having to wait for the last two movies. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are nothing like the first one (which was disappointing compared to the book) but follow in Catching Fire's footsteps.

9.5/10

As I understand it, Francis Lawrence is doing both of the last two, so I'd expect them to be on the same level of genius. :D

very good scifi movie, rare case of a sequel bettering the first by some margin (and the first movie was actually pretty good) and for once a teen movie not at all let down by its 'teeniness'. 10/10

I only got praise for this with just 2 reservations -
1. probably a bit grim for an xmas release (or perhaps more hardhitting this way?)
2. the youths look way too preened and brycreemed up to be in a starving dystopia, BUT forgiveable since the movie needs to sell to middle class metro kids who are so out of touch of this setting that they would rapidly become extinct if HG really happened (leaving the world to be run by the bad ass classes of the 1980/90s, nice thought).

But everything else is great. pretty awesome kind of gritty near future parable that I used to eat up as a kid in both book or movie form. But why cant other teen movies be this good?
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I found one blatent movie mistake.
On the train, right after they see the mockingjay graffiti, and look out to see lots of jeeps with peacekeepers on their way to district 11, the wall clearly says 13 on it...not 12, which is the district they just came from, badum tsh!
Has anyone seen or even heard of The Starving Games? I saw this dvd in Tesco just now and it appears to be a spoof movie by the makers of Epic Movie,Date Night etc. I wonder if it is worth seeing/remotely funny?
