Sometimes films just 'click' and other they don't. Which is a good thing, otherwise it would be a very dull and boring old movie world. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, evoked love or hatred and we're all talking about it whether we liked it or not so the filmaker has done a good job in my opinion.

I avoided this film on purpose as I am fairly certain I would have hated it for several reasons. I have never been a fan of arty films nor some actors who seem to be continually in them.

Nevertheless, all our opinions have the same merits and I happen to know that both weliveandbreatheetc. and LondonCityNights (apart from that fondness for very long user names) are both very nice people though I often enough don't agree with their reviews.

I also welcome good discussions on films, all I ask is that everyone plays by the rules and doesn't get personal. And I don't mean anyone in particular here, on the whole we are a friendly bunch, aren't we? o/

Unfortunatley I fell asleep half way through. The pace was far to slow and I felt the director was completley self indulgent in regards to the production. The ending was sooo abrupt & predictable causing me to laugh out loud. Sadly I felt asbif I had wasted my time folks!

canadian_turtle wrote:I thought it was atmospheric and strangely alluring in the beginning but just pretty visuals and a nice soundtrack became boring after a while, unfortunately. For me this film was only saved by my bias towards Hiddleston. Had anyone else been in that role I would've been bored out of my mind and clock watching. As I wasn't, I suppose this warrants at least a 6/10
This was definitely a marmite film but my views mirror canadian_turtle's. I thought I would love it at the beginning but I started to lose interest. So I'm somewhere in the middle. I didn't hate it but can't say I loved it either.

Tom Hiddleston is a beautiful man, but by the end that wasn't quite enough. At one point I looked down my row and saw at least 3 people napping! I almost burst out laughing at the most inappropriate time. I could also see some people were really engrossed in contrast to the others were confidently using the time to catch some zzzz :D I immediately thought "this is a marmite film". However, I can appreciate the good while conceding that I think there were less enjoyable aspects of the film. 6/10.

I'm always nodding off and it is never a reflection on the quality of the film ;)

I'm hopeful for some more screenings of this. I wanna see it again! Looks like I might have a cinema to myself though. Haha.

Thanks, Yinny - I never spotted the similarity with Drive at the time, but totally agree. Atmospheric, beautiful and soundtrack to kill for, not not much actually happens! No-wonder I'm firmly in the Like Camp.

Art is to be appreciated by those that appreciate it. Not everyone rates "modern art" for example. There is no right and wrong. Like it. Hate it. Who cares. It is what it is.

I saw it last summer, loved it and I think I gave it 9/10!
(I know that's not a review... I just wanted to up the general rating!)

I would also score it 9/10 and would willingly watch it on a loop.
