Muppets: Most Wanted

#1 Post by funthing29 » Thu Mar 13, 2014 7:20 am

The embargo has been lifted so I can finally post my review of the film.

I have to say I was incredibly disappointed. I thought The Muppets was charming and funny but it is shame that the sequel failed to recapture the magic and delight of the previous film. The script is not very good, Ricky Gervais has barely any screen presence and the jokes are not funny. The best thing about this movie is all the cameos (which seem never-ending) but the film itself is a crushing disappointment.

5/10.

I am a huge Muppets fan (both the old TV show and the newer film with Jason Segel) but sadly this didn't do anything for me. The screening wasn't of to a good start for me anyway as I was ill that weekend and dragged myself out of bed just to attend and in the end I didn't feel it was worth it. Even though it was a multi-media screening there was zero "fun"; no food, no green screen not even some water and candy on the seats... what the hell, Disney?

As for the film, the very first song it opens with retains some of the fun of the 2012 film but after that it's rapidly downhill. I actually thought there was too much Ricky Gervais (he's just SO annoying), the jokes were forced and overdone (after a while it only became a "spot the celebrity cameo" game which became very tiring) and it all very much felt like a straight for TV/DVD C-film. Despite Bret McKenzie writing the songs again they were mostly not memorable at all - no Oscar contender here - and the storyline didn't appeal to me either.

I'm mostly disappointing that this film felt very far removed from the previous one. It wasn't charming and funny and feel-good with a heartwarming message underneath. It was messy and predictable and banked on cameos rather than a good story, and it's a shame they severely underused Walter who gave so much heart to the first remake.

A reluctant 6/10

Thanks - you just made me feel so much better about missing the screening on the 22nd.

Ditto Yinster, which is why I was put off by the film as soon as I heard about his involvement last year. Went to see it for the Muppet characters, Josh Groban and Tom Hiddleston, but wouldn't soon seen it again.

Despite my reluctance to see this film because of all the bad reviews and my absolute love for the first film with the amazing Jason seagall and Amy Adams my daughter is dying to see this film, does anyone know if there are going to be anymore tickets released on disney screenings or show film first or anything...? Thanks :) x

Loved this, but them again what's not to love about the Muppets.
So many cameos and everyone brilliant.

I was actually very disappointed with the Muppets Lady Gaga Chrismas special. They were not funny and were just sucking up to Lady gaga all the time which it turned it to be her show anyway.

Sorry to hear this disappointing trend is continuing but I will still catch it on its release with lowered expectations.

I am actually a big fan of Ricky Gervais's Office and Extras and still watch repeats to this day. He is actually a damn good actor too but I agree, his persona can be really annoying and lately I realise his type of comedy is now getting old hat which at one time, was hugely innovative.

I actually realised I worded this rather badly. I did not mean he has few scenes in the film, what I meant is that he has a poor screen persona so appears lifeless and disinterested.
