So sorry to the two ladies who subjected their mums to this today. at least tomorrow is mothers day. I now have to listen to my plus one (other half) moaning all night about how he wished he d pa*d and gone to the dominion
Re: Noah
Turned up to Filmhouse at 2.30 and felt we were kept outside to provide a crowd for publicity purposes for when Russell Crowe turned up. They went down the queue swapping the paper vouchers for tickets that said doors open at 4.00, which was a relief as I was getting very cold. But that didn't happen.
Russell Crowe turned up just after 4:20 with an entourage dressed in highland costume and signed items for the crowd, (including my poster). Then he went inside and they let about 50 people in.
They kept the rest of the queue waiting because they had to let the "guest list" in first, and only after they were seated would they know how many spaces there would be in Cinema 1. So we had another 20 odd minutes watching people wafting in from the left hand side with their guest list tickets, stopping and smilingly having their photos taken in front of the posters, whilst we were left getting colder and colder and angrier and angrier. We finally got let in about ten to five to see plenty of empty seats.
When Crowe had done his introduction and the film started there were still empty seats. It shouldn't have been too difficult to fill the cinema, as that was the main part of their job.
It didn't appear to be Filmhouse staff running the whole shebang, but hired in people for Paramount, and the fact they left empty seats in the auditorium was amateur in the extreme.
I didn't feel well treated through the whole experience, but those further back in the queue were treated even worse.
It never rains, but it pours. (I'll get me coat)

Re: Noah
I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able go to this and didn't bother to try for tickets but having read through this I am glad I didn't go. Bad enough you all standing that length of time but annoyed that the film appears to have been a let down after all the hype.
Did you take your Mum as your plus one Stuartboy?
Poor chelle and marjoreemarjora's mothers would be thinking they were getting a treat - you'll have to make it up to them tomorrow if they have thawed out by then - hope no one caught a chill.

Nope. Thank the lord. She would not have been amused! I'd intended taking a mate who's a big Javert fan, but bailed on me. I was all on my ownsome, despite plenty of fmukers in the freezing queue.biggins wrote:Did you take your Mum as your plus one Stuartboy?

Jeez! this sounds absolutely appalling and I've been to some screenings that were cocked up but nothing as bad as this.
For those of you on Facebook, Filmhouse are on there. Post away if my advice.
How did it go in Cardiff?

Re: Noah
I have finally thawed out from that debacle yesterday to add my tuppence worth.
Couldn't organise the proverbial in a brewery. That was shocking.
So poor was the organisation that my OH actually was let into the Filmhouse at 1.30 and if he hadn't asked where was everyone and what was happening he could have been warm and cozy and 1st in the queue!
We were frozen and very very grumpy.
We were penned in like animals ignored like plebs and given no information or snippets they thought we'd hype up to. New to paramount - this was not a One Direction Concert. The average age of the queue was, (no disrespect to anyone there intended) 40+. Ie too old to be bothered getting hyped up. too old to want to stand and too old to be cold! the Edinburgh wind was howling the haar was rolling in, it was miserable. Quite apt for the film as it turned out.
I will be writing to Paramount as the treating of people like that was a disgrace and all for what.
They did give out tickets to people at the end off the street as I knew one bloke who'd been wandering past he asked what was happening, they told him, he joined the queue for 30 minutes and got in. Screen 2 wasn't full either.
What a massive PR disaster and as for the dim blond in the mini kilt with the clip-board and the head-set - Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
The film?
It was dull, it was brown/grey, the GCI was shoddy - my OH said where's the tiger - they could've got that free from life of Pi?! The animals were shoddy and fake.
Ray Winstone looked like he's landed from the last remake of Robin Hood.
Jennifer Connelly was wearing lovely ribbed man made fibre jumper at one point - very skilled they were in the BC days with a knitting machine.
Sorry I was so cold and angry that it drives me to hate the whole thing.
I should also say there was an older lady on crutches behind me in the queue, at no point did they offer her a seat. Help her, ask if she was OK.
Shoddy, rude and terrible.
Never again!!!

Re: Noah
Have just about recovered from my fabulous day out, not!!
We arrived at quarter to two and expected to get our tickets and go off for a coffee and come back and get in.
In no way were we advised that we were queuing on the off chance of getting in to the actual premiere. My mum is 81 and was a film extra so has been to film premiers before. She was so happy I asked her rather than one of my chums. We stood and stood, I asked when were we getting in, soon!!
We were fortunate to be at the red carpet at the side and asked Russell Crowe for an autograph for Mum, in the mele I said she is probably the oldest person here nearly 82, and bless him he turned round and shook her hand. She thought that was so nice of him.
We were the last people to have our ticket switched and got in in the first raft. The chap who was sitting next to me was connected to Filmaid and asked what our connection . he said outr ticket was different, and that lots of people were queing up outside hoping to get in!!
The girls a bit in front of me had been there since 9 am.
Having been to Film Premiers that Mum was an extra in, at the Dominion I have to say, it was an abolute shambles from start to finish.
As others have said being so cold, I was disappointed in the film itself. Thought there would be more and better animals. Would I recommend the film to friends to p*y and go and see it. No.
Do I wish I had not bothered going. Yes, without a doubt.
So looking forward to the afternoon Tea on Thursday with my mum. Hopefully will get a seat by a radiator.
The position regarding the queue we were in should have been explained to us, there was ample time for Filmhouse Staff to tell us. At that time Chelle1973 and I could have told our mums to go and get a coffee and we could have phoned them when we were getting in.
Badly done Edinburgh. We expected more. The premiere will be remembered but for all the wrong reasons!!

Re: Noah
Hi from Cardiff. Unlike Edinburgh, the weather was warm and sunny, thank goodness.
A shambles there as well.
OH and I set off early for the 'allocated' tickets (5:30) as being on crutches I just wanted to be out of the way of the crowds. Anyway, the paramount people were setting up the red carpet and we chatted to them about me just getting an 'allocated' seat, got sent to a small table with one person on it, to which there was a blank stare and she said 'nooo its just (a quote) free for all as to seating!. So she said to come back at 6.15 for tickets. No way was I leaving. So, camped out on a bench by the table. The queue grew.... around the upstairs and doubled back on itself.
I had OH primed for our tickets with my ID. I could see a bit of panic growing at the desk and another female came to the table to help. Dead on 6:15 they stated to dish out the tickets. No ID required, no dress restriction at all. At that point we found out where the film would be shown and we made out way to screen 9. We waited there for about 20 mins, asking again if we were in the correct screen, showing the tickets again. THEN up comes a Cineworld person and says our tickets are for a different screen.....3. Off we go to the lift where we met 'Joe from M8 security'. He took pity on me, went to 'sort it out' and sent us back up stairs. Now, in a bit of 'moody' due to my painkillers I said to the same person that we had been sent back up!! 2 girls moved up so I could have my seat on the bench back. The poor Cineworld woman then said how they were not supported by the Paramount people and that there were 2 kinds of ticket, one for Russel and one not. I then felt sorry for her as the only time the 'entourage' came in view was to make sure the seats were filled. The young man I had talked to at the red carpet showed me the ramp way into the screen. some of the Paramount people there were really helpful and kind to the 'enormous' amount of people present. The ones with 'ear pieces' and clipboards were a pain the arse!
When it looked like the screen wasn't filled, I think they brought in people from the other screen and made them sit in the front seats....which took ages.
Then came the, was it 5 minutes??? of Russel and ??? forgot his film name was umm Seth I think. Was a bit of a sucker for Russel but it was quick.
The film,???? the bible meets Lord of the Rings (B movie style).
Ok, I admit the medication was really kicking in by this time and I was in my own fantasy world. I liked the film but for probably the wrong reasons. This will not win awards, the CGI was a bit naf and seeing Ray Winston in the welding mask made me giggle. OH then explained that this was an industrial civilisation that was about to be wiped out totally. I felt it was a 'hit it with a sledge hammer eco message'.
One good point, classed it as a Date Night, with a bag of chips from 'chip alley'. Didn't get back till nearly midnight.
Overall 6/10, mainly because it also included my first john lewis cake and hot drink and late night chips.
What a horrible time you had in Edinburgh, think Cardiff got off lightly!!
