Need for Speed

Surprised too see a lot of you enjoyed this, I thought I would be one a few as I too had a real blast with this movie.

I am not going to state the obvious about the film's plausibility because its bloody obvious isn't it. I don't know why critics even bother saying it.

I thought the only kind of audience that will enjoy this are the kind who enjoy films like Speed Racer etc. The kind that can enjoy the simplicity of the clichéd and auto scripted revenge storyline but performed with guiltless charm and energy, overpowered by an adrenaline inducing, outrageously staged fantasy stunt driving in beautiful cars whose engines rumble and roar through the low frequency speakers and vibrations of the cinema floorboards.

Am I part of that audience? you bet I am. There isn't much else to say because there isn't much else to say about it, why should there be. But wait there is one thing to add to what you've all said. Many of the stunts feel organic and quite genuine which thrilled me more.

7.5 only for the target audience. Includes an extra mark for the awesome vintage quirkiness of Michael Keeton :)

Nice review as usual, Mr. G.

One thing I do disagree with it is the quirkiness of Michael Keaton. I found his character to be unbearable to the core and wished his scenes of needless exposition could have been excised completely.

Weird for me to say that because he's rarely anything but excellent.

I totally get that. I imagine many would agree with you too. It's just I really like him and he's hamming it up in a more subtler Beetlejuice way and can't help digging that but on reflection he is quite a contrast to the rest of the film's vibe and probably off putting for most. For me however, he's like putting my favourite spices onto a hotdog which clearly doesn't belong but nevertheless I enjoy it, if you get my ahem.."drift":)

Maybe they'll lose his scenes on the Director's Cut Blu-Ray (if there is one).
Similar to how they chopped off Mary Elizabeth Winstead's scenes in A Good Day To Die Hard.
Heaven knows why they did that. She was the best thing in it.

Saw this yesterday and enjoyed it for what it was (two or so hours of relatively mindless entertainment).

Thought Michael Keaton's character was pretty irritating and although I enjoyed Aaron Paul's performance in this I do think he really needs to find a few roles (in the not too distant future) that are significantly different to Breaking Bad's Jesse Pinkman .

Overall it met my expectations & did just enough to get a 7/10 from me...
