The Quiet Ones

The makers of the original Hammer Films must be turning in their graves. This was about as scary as an episode of Scooby Doo.

Totally agree. Not at all worthy of the Hammer name. Thought it might just be me, though I'm guessing this may be targeted at the teen/20s market (an age range to which I can no longer claim to be even vaguely near). Had won tickets to the world premiere but wish I hadn't wasted my time and train fare. As you say, not at all scary, and frankly quite ridiculous (and no, I don't believe 'based on actual events' should let it off). Offered nothing of interest to me, other than a fairly decent performance form Olivia Cooke. Worst film I've seen this year by far.

Saw this last weekend and it wasn't a great experience, it had a much shorter running time than 'Divergent' & 'The Raid 2' but felt like the most time consuming film of the three which really wasn't a good sign.

Admittedly it did make me jump a few times (albeit in a cheap & tacky manner) but the acting in general was so wooden from the majority of cast it was difficult to take this film seriously.

Although it's probably in my bottom five, it's not quite the worst film that I've seen this year so as I have a soft spot for the genre (& it did make me laugh a few times) I think it did just enough to scrape a 5/10 from me...

This was my third film of my rare triple bill today which completes my top three favourite genres, Sci fi, Martial Arts and finally, the supernatural.

As the film began, I got the feeling of "Oh...how retro, its not a handheld lost footage film!!"...then guess what, a student with a handheld movie camera appears and it becomes a handheld camera film! Well, actually its a fusion of both and I actually liked that dynamic.

I totally agree with the above posts in that this doesnt actually feel like a Hammer film but you know what, it was nevertheless a damn good entry in the supernatural genre. It had an intriguing new spin to the usual "possessed" storyline that toys with different interpretations of what the supernatural is. I loved that angle. Plus this was genuinely scary and unlike the tiring Paranormal Activity movies, we get a full on narrative here. The performances were very engaging too and the film was well paced.

This is another film, along with Transcendence that seems to be getting a disappointing critic reception but I think the film deserves a little more credit than that.

8/10

I saw this through The Slackers Club and it was the best movie by far they have shown. I actually really enjoyed this. I found myself on edge of my seat throughout the film which I thought made for a not bad modern equivalent to a hammer horror - although 'horror' is a bit of a strong term for this. In case people are wondering i have seen many of the old hammer films as well as a multitude of horrors over the years - many, many hours sat in front of the box with the old VHS 50p classics - gosh thats going back a while and many cinema trips over the years as I was a bit of a horror fan back then.
