Finally watched this yesterday evening... blimey WIQ was packed!! Queue went all the way outside. Only one showing left per week but glad it was in a good screen.

I didn't think the film was as bad as some of the reviews here (and the others I've read elsewhere). I was really worried it would have been awful but like jpeg, I thought it was okay. I quite enjoyed the movie - wouldn't say it was brilliant but not so bad that it's unwatchable. For some reason, it reminded me alot of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."

I think it's worth 7/10 and I would recommend others who I know would like this to watch it.

I saw an IMAX screening of this last week at the Odeon Metrocentre.

I was expecting some great things from this film having been semi-aware of the high-profile pre-release marketing. I can remember thinking "I must see that!"

I really wanted to like this film, but I have to say that it just fell short of the mark for me on so many levels.

I felt the plot was uninspired and frankly a bit boring. Even the 3D effects seemed second rate. Johny Depp as The Mad Hatter just kind of looked "glakey" and "spaced out" for the majority of his screen time. I couldn't get very enthusiastic about the portrayal of the grown up Alice character either.

Many of the other characters seemed lacklustre too, with the exception of the "Tweedle" brothers. In the end though this was not enough to lift the film for me, and I was pleased when it drew to a close and I was free to leave the cinema and restart my life.

Don't get me wrong though, the film is far from "unwatchable" but for me the disappointment factor was too large for a film that I had formed exceedingly high expectations for.

Only 7 out of 10 for me for this one.

Went to an afternoon showing of this at the Haymarket Cineworld, using my MyCityDeal cinema voucher. I'd been looking forward to the film for ages.
My first observation was that the 3D didn't really seem to be working. Nothing was flying out at me like it did with other 3D films, so the 3D-ness was a bit of a gimmick and didn't add anything except a slight nausea.
I would have liked to have warmed to Alice a bit more, so that I could feel for her throughout the film, but she wasn't a particularly memorable or rounded character. I thought the Red Queen was a fab character, and I also liked the Tweedle brothers. I thought the Mad Hatter was just Johnny Depp being creepy (again!) and the White Queen wasn't much of a heroine (and looked like she'd just swigged a bottle of Ribena and got the juice all over her lips).
I thought some of the colours and shapes were interesting, and there was certainly a lot of creative thought gone into it. But overall I thought the story was lacking, and I thought there were a lot of interestering observations that could have been brought in.
It was a nice enough way to spend two hours in the cinema, and I'm glad I finally got around to seeing the film. Having read all the reviews here my expectations were not too high, so I wasn't desperately disappointed. 7/10

I used my MyCityDeal cinema voucher yesterday afternoon at the Haymarket Cineworld. [Reminder - expires 23 April for those who still has to use it!)

Didn't expect to like it after reading the reviews - but I loved it - may be it was the decadent of watching it on a Saturday afternoon, having the whole row to myself, a cinema with only about a dozen people (quite a lot on their own too!) so feels like a private screening! It was all very tongue in cheek and fun, I loved the Red Queen - "off with their heads" at every opportunity, the White Queen, looking all so delicate and pretty, pretty, and a grown up Alice, who is intelligent, honest, girly, fun, strong and no push over! And a good business sense too! Also good supporting cast from the animals. 9/10.

Burton in billion-dollar 'Wonderland' (source: Yahoo)

Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' will become only the sixth movie to cross the $1billion (£694million) mark at the worldwide box office.

The 3D epic is on course to join the billionaire club, with the members being 'Avatar', 'Titanic', 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' and 'The Dark Knight'.
It has taken $332million (£230million) in the US alone and $667million (£463million) elsewhere.

Cynics might suggest that its box office success has to do with the inflated ticket prices on 3D films, but its haul is an impressive one nonetheless. While the other five films that passed the billion-dollar mark were summer or holiday releases, 'Alice in Wonderland's' success is all the more startling as it was released in the spring.

That's really serious money, isn't it? 8O

Maybe I should have watched it 3D in the cinema, but I just finished watching it 2D on dvd/TV and it was very disappointing like what most have said, considering how much money it has made at the box office. Stylistically very good but the script is just Boring! Helena Bonham Carter and Matt Lucas were the best bits in it. Johnny Depp was quite underwhelming and you could see these Disney executives trying to cast Johnny Depp in other Jack Sparrow-esque roles and thinking about all those dollar signs in their eyes! 6/10

3D wasnt rerally an improvement on the 2D version, which may be part of the reason why its getting some flack. I was at the packed out Sky screening today. I was expectring th Cheshire cat to pop right out of the screen at me, but it never transpired.

Beautifully filmed nevertheless, well cast and a fair but fleeting reflection of the anti-logical Wonderland without being overwhelming in its absurdity.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
