The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars is an upcoming romantic comedy-drama film directed by Josh Boone, based on John Green's 2012 novel of the same name. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, and Nat Wolff. Filming took place in Pittsburgh and Amsterdam.

Plot
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has b*ght her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous given that Hazel's other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer support group.
A movie that will make you laugh and cry.

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
Watched this yesterday thanks to akh43 at Didsbury where we also received a free book, teeshirt and a coconut milk drink. A beautiful, sensitive, romantic comedy which was a pleasure to watch and although I was one of the oldest people there by about 25 years it was lovely to watch and a lot of squeals of delight from the audience when the heart throb revealed his six pack and lots of sniffling going on as the story unfolded. On leaving we were given a cloud to write our thoughts about the film on it and pin it on the board or take home with us, the ink was flowing with the young girls. I have no idea where akh43 won the competition from but obviously we weren't the target audience and I didn't fill in a cloud to take home
I remember sobbing my heart out at that age at a film but cannot for the life of me remember what is was
All I can remember was a young boy and a ferris wheel.

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
Ah I can talk about this now! Saw it at a test screening in March I think it was but other than a few brief scenes being slightly darker than in the finished product it was pretty much the final version.
I'm a HUGE fan of the book, it's a well-written and incredibly moving story which had me sobbing pretty much from start to finish. So when I saw the trailer to the film in which basically nothing happens (it just shows the main characters being cute with each other - tailored to the teenage fans of the story) I was really disappointed and wasn't planning on seeing the film at all.
So it was probably a good thing that instead I ended up catching it at one of those "secret" test screenings, as this way it meant that I did see it after all and it took me pleasantly by surprise. It was not as emotional or harrowing as the story in the book, but I have to admit that both Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort did an excellent job bringing the beloved characters to live; their scenes in Amsterdam were particularly moving and well-executed. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the film despite the severely lacking trailer.
8/10
We didn't get any freebies so if anyone who saw it at a preview do not want their tshirt, please think of me. Thank you

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
I won tickets for this through a competition Elski posted, I had no idea it was aimed teenfans till we arrived. I did feel a bit old due to all the teens present, but feel all ages would enjoy the film.
Clearly a very popular book with a huge following as all the fans were so excited putting their pale blue t-shirts on and posing in front of a screen, on leaving they asked us to tweet any feedback to littleinfinities, who arranged the screenings, they also mentioned a screening in scotland the same day. We had a film introduction before the film by the author, Ed Sheeren, who did the song at the end and the main 2 characters, the fans went wild.
I really enjoyed the film, very sad in parts, but well acted by the main characters and would definitely recommend. A perfect Saturday afternoon movie 7/10 - I hope to read the free book we received at some point.

Re: The Fault in Our Stars
This has faded into my memory but I remember not being very impressed at the time. I think I gave it 6/10 but perhaps that was too generous.
I did not feel emotional or affected watching this (even though I heard sniffling all around me) and thought Shailene Woodley gave an incredibly weak performance. This may be why I did not b*y into the central relationship and was not moved by the story.

Re: The Fault In Our Stars
I finished the book yesterday and it is truly heartbreaking!
Worried about watching it as I balled my eyes out reading it(which Ive only done with 1 other book previously), its totally relatable and goes deep into 'the side effects of dying', which Im sure anyone whos been touched by cancer can relate to.
Cant wait to see it.

This has to be one of the most depressing films that I have ever watched. It's also the film with the healthiest looking sick people that I have watched.

Re: The Fault In Our Stars
Yip they all look pretty healthy. Back from Glasgow Quay. Oh how this is my least favourite cinemas. Not only were we in one of the smallest screen - 69 seats, well 68 as one was broken but the cinema usher at the ticket check told us not to queue cos we were causing a fire hazard and/or a disturbance yet won't allow us to queue outside the screen where they were plenty of room. However we stood our ground cos we knew what she was saying was silly.scootermcc wrote:This has to be one of the most depressing films that I have ever watched. The film itself was aimed for teens and I can see why they would love the book. Yet why do they always make the teens speak so adult in these things? OH would probably now read the book and was saying to be weepy halfway through. By the end she was almost wailing but not quite. Decent attempt but yip they all look too healthy. And doesn't Isaac remind anyone of Christopher Mintz-Plasse?

Re: The Fault In Our Stars
Full house at Edinburgh. Hard hearted me didn't shed a tear although my friend was sniffling into her hankie as were others round us. Enjoyable film as it had humour in it too which lighten the mood. Loved the Amsterdam scenes and the Anne Frank museum. 8/10 from me.
