Re: Date Night
I saw this with my first wife tonight at the Silverlink. The cinema was 90% plus full. I thought that the film was really poor, with almost a complete lack of any redeeming features whatsoever except for Tina Fey's dress which looked terrific on her.
The film did not have much of a plot in my opinion, and although it was mildly amusing in a couple of places I would not classify it as an out and out comedy. It was a sort of uneasy blend of comedy and drama. It tried to be dramatic and failed - it tried to be funny and in the main failed at that too. The main leads lacked charisma or any chemistry with each other. The car chase scene was rubbish and the erotic dancing scene was exceptionally cringeworthy. This is easily the worst film I have seen so far this year.
I would rate this as a 4 out of 10 film.

Re: Date Night
After a day in work with very few laughs this did take my mind off things for a while. I accepted that it was not going to be an all time great from the responses on here.
Having said that, it did make me laugh in places and the real Triplehorns were brilliant - as was looking at Mark Wahlberg, not sure if he was really acting or just standing there thinking, 'I get pa*d for this'.
Yes the plot was weak, yes the acting a bit dodgy in places but it was a good/different car chase and it made me laugh.
As it took my mind off work will give it 7/10

Re: Date Night
Saw this last night and was a bit disappointed - I thought it would be much funnier than it actually was - it was still entertaining for the 1 hour and a half and I've seen much much worse, but still, could've been a lot better. 5/10

Re: Date Night
I'm really surprised by the positive comments on here as this film was so lame it should be put down.
Truly dreadful and the worst film I've seen for ages (and I've seen some turkey's lately so that is saying something!) 3/10

Re: Date Night
Did you stay until the very very end of the credits though? They had more out-takes of the scene where they disguise themselves and go back to the restaurant. Basically them just doing different accents (including Fey doing an amusingly poor South London accent)milkchocmonkey wrote:I agree with Beate the out-takes at the end were hilarious!
I thought this was fairly undemanding stuff. Occasionally very funny. Hardly original though. It just reminded me of a lot of the 'Yuppies in peril' comedies of the 80's. Films like 'After Hours' and 'Into the Night' though not as good as either of those. 'Adventures in Babysitting' came to mind too. I personally thought Carrell and Fey saved it. Unlike many on here I thought they had quite a decent chemistry going. An agreeable time-waster overall.

Re: Date Night
I wondered what other type of preview this was as well as SFF? When we went in, the Cineworld staff member merely glanced at our printouts but did not take them. Some time later, when quite a few people were sitting in the auditorium, another staff member rushed in and asked breathlessly for our printouts. However, everyone else seemed to be handing over small peices of paper which looked like cut-out coupons. When I handed over the A4 SFF printout, he said in surprise "Oh, you've got one of those!" I still don't know what the other type was.

Re: Date Night
I enjoyed this film like most others, it's never going to win the Oscars but it's a guilty pleasure. I think Shawn Levy's doing a pretty good job directing this type of film. Tina Fey's really growing on me too and she was a good partner to Steve Carrell (who I sometimes find a little annoying). They did have chemistry in this film. And yes that car chase was most unusual (and we all thought no one can add anything new to that type of scene). All in all an enjoyable date night for me 7/10.
