The Anomaly

#1 Post by funthing29 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:27 am

I saw this at a gala screening last night at the new Ham Yard Hotel in Soho which has a lovely screening room.

I have racked my brains trying to think of something positive to say about this film and all I can think of is that it is marginally better than Walking on Sunshine (which is not saying much).

Noel Clarke is a mediocre actor but not a very good director and this project is proof of that. This film was incredibly repetitive, the special effects and fight sequences often looked cheap, poorly written dialogue and a lot of plot holes.

3/10.

Well when the director, Noel Clarke, introduces his film saying this is not a premiere as such, I believe him, as there was no red carpet, no water, popcorn or goody bags on the seats, it was just like a normal screening albeit in a posh hotel. Ham Yard Hotel should take note of gala/press screenings held at The Mayfair Hotel, who frequently have drinks and nibbles beforehand, goody bags, water and popcorn/chocs on seats.

After a quite boring intro from the director, checking the time, to see whether his children are in bed or preparing for bed or not, the anticipated film finally starts.

This film is very poor, I would say rubbish but that would be too good for it!

Noel Clarke's character constantly blacks out and wakes up in compromising situations, and getting into fights, then blacks out again, and again and again - waking up only for 9 or so minutes but when he is blacked out, time has moved on, and he does not know what happened in between the blackouts or how he gets to where he is, he does not reset and re-lives the time again. The idea is a good one but really badly executed. Then we have Noel Clarke being very narcissistic, showing his naked or half dressed body as much as possible, although I must say he is very well endowed! ;) And really predictable caricatures, the mad Russian scientist and scary gangsters and what is this a prostitute with a heart? She knows him for like 5 minutes, then helps him out. With the repetitive slow moving fighting, poor script, it really is a disappointing sci-fi, mind-bending film.

And I was not the only one, spoke to three people after the screening and they all thought the same.

And its out on DVD on Friday  Its strange what people call a Gala Screening, maybe it depends on the Production Company and the fllm, whether they provide water and popcorn.

Noel Clarke seems like a nice guy, but he can't really act. His films like Adulthood and Kidulthood were good, but since then, he's gotten worse and worse. Why companies are still giving him money to him I have no idea.

Highlight of the film for me was seeing Mark Kermode come in and sit at the back. :star:  o/
