A Most Wanted Man

#1 Post by stuartboy » Tue Sep 02, 2014 9:52 pm

Yawn.
Bit or a snorefest unfortunately. Rather drab and slow. I really did want to like this, particularly as it was Philip Seymour Hoffman's last movie, but it was dullsville.
Rather liked the Kylie Minogue look-a-like though.
I think the final 30 seconds of the film pretty much summed it up. 2 hours too long.

5/10

I'm sure the likers will love it though. I just didn't.

I did find this rather slow and at one point thought it should have been on TV in a few parts! However, I did enjoy it but would have preferred if it had been 30mins shorter. I thought the story and acting were good though I would have preferred a different ending.
Marks 7/10

I saw this at Glasgow Quay tonight. Shown in a small screening room . . .folk turned away as room full. Karenlg123 and I discussed how it's funny how Times folk are generally early to make sure they get in and are off the running blocks immediately the staff mention the room is now open! Never see this at Sun+ or SFF. Lol
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley
Others I'd go to: Glasgow Showcase Baillieston

Quite a slow film and I didn't really feel any compassion towards Issa, felt more sorry for Gunther at the end. Would have preferred a different ending too rather than an 'is that it?!' 5/10
Preferred cinemas: Any in Edinburgh!

Excellent absorbing film with a suitably understated brooding performance from the sadly missed Philip Seymour Hoffman. One of the best big screen adaptations of a Le Carre story to date. Satisfying and very highly recommended.

So disappointing, so dull at times and I had been so looking forward to this. I feel badly let down. :x

I really enjoyed this film but would have enjoyed it a lot more if it had been 20-30 mins shorter. My Dad said it was more complicated to follow than an extended episode of Taggart and although he wasn't sure exactly what happened he thought he enjoyed the film anyway!

It was full of twists, turns, double dealings and I did have to keep my wits about me trying to follow the plot.

Excellent acting from Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Understated and really the only character that I really felt any real empathy for.

Would almost like to see it again now I know what happened to see if I did actually know what happened!

I just found it quite amusing seeing all the impeccably turned out "older" gray haired Times viewers almost pawing the ground as they await the "barricade being lifted" for access to the film...................... It was a bit like being in the January sales the way I was getting jostled as they elbowed past me and my octogenarian Dad to get the best seats!

Next time I go to a Times screening I am wearing protective clothing! :)
