I thought one of the kitchen staff wasn't French (definitely an English speaker although not sure if he was meant to be English) which is why Mirren's character repeated dialogue in English.

Really enjoyed the film, a soft, easy viewing story.
Like others here it was somewhat spoiled by the shouting out of comments by someone sitting just one seat away from us. I ended up doing my 'shush' rather loudly at him. He did go quiet for a while but then started up again. OH said that he thought that the man had something wrong with him, think I agree.

An excellent film - I really enjoyed it. Shed a few tears too.

Was surprised by how much I enjoyed this and I think that was mainly down to the characters but both the narrative & locations played a part in that as well.

I will say that it wasn't as hunger inducing as I expected it to be, even though some of the dishes put together towards the end of the movie were very creative they just didn't have my tummy rumbling nearly as much as last year's 'Jadoo'.

Overall it's a very decent & relatively uplifting drama that did just enough to get an 8/10 from me...

I thought it was a really sweet movie and I loved the emphasis on all the food (I'm foodie obsessed), but I admit, I wish they'd made better use of some of the minor characters like Hassan's sister and Marguerite.

My review is here on my blog: http://bakingbeardy.com/2014/09/30/the- ... la-hassan/
