I was there too seeing it for the second time, I thought I was the only regular in attendance.Betty Botter wrote:Watched this for a second time last night and enjoyed it even more. The audience clapped at the end it was so poignant.
I gave it 9/10 last time and I think I was a little harsh, it's a truly wonderful film with so much to say about friendship and politics and prejudice, but so entertaining and funny and moving at the same time.
10/10

We watched how a group of Lesbian/Gays came to be friends with the inhabitants of a Welsh village during the 80’s miners’ strike and how each party supported the other during their times of need.
A good plot, excellent locations and a cracking cast. Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton were (as usual) fabulous. Great soundtrack of 80’s gay anthems – where were Soft Cell and Erasure though?
At the time, I didn’t really know much about the 80’s miners’ strike and even less about the original Gay Pride march. I feel as if I now (at long last) understand the background of both. 9/10
Getting music rights for film broadcasts are I understand quite costly and significant for low budget films. Not the case of greedy music acts, there are the publishers/record companies themselves. Though that might not be the explanation in this case.

Just heard my email about Pride read out on Kermode and Mayo's film show
It was the second one read out, the one that name checks Up, for any fellow Podcast listeners.

Re: Pride
Excellent film - a film for everyone. Harrow cinema quite full on Sunday 7 September. Not a film I would have thought was my cup of tea but because of the great cast (some familiar faces, some not), some really good laugh-out-loud moments, and some very touching ones too, it soon proved to be a cracker of a film! I didn't even know beforehand that the story was based on true events from the miner's strikes in the 80's.

Re: Pride
Although I don't think this is the best film to be released this year I still really enjoyed it, the story was compelling, the characters were great and generally speaking watching this movie was an uplifting experience throughout.
Performance wise Imelda Staunton & Ben Schnetzer (so different to his Riot Club character) stood out but it was Bill Nighy's (generally) quiet & subdued Cliff that left the greatest impression on me.
Overall it's a superb comedic drama that more than deserves a 9/10 from me...

Re: Pride
I saw this again yesterday at the Odeon Panton Street off Leicester Square.
I was thoroughly fed-up after the worst week I think I've ever had, and I wanted to see a film that would totally absorb me. I picked the perfect one. I laughed again and cried again, and give it 10/10 - again! I have decided it is my favourite film of the year (and I'm proud to be both a lesbian and a vegetarian!)
I needed to use up my final Groupon code so I didn't p*y for the screening, but I was shocked to discover a 14:15pm weekday showing would have cost 13.30! Yikes! No wonder there was hardly anyone else at the cinema.
I came out thinking I would b*y some copies of Pride on DVD to give as Xmas gifts, but it is only being released on 23 December, which seems rather silly and a missed opportunity.
