Horns

#1 Post by prettyxcool » Wed Oct 22, 2014 12:54 am

Won tickets for the Horns premiere - a very low key one at Odeon West End. There were a lot of winners as the queue snaked inside the Odeon Leicester Square and filled the whole foyer as everyone waited to collect tickets. When it was my turn, they asked us if we wanted to go on the red carpet and meet Daniel Ratcliffe. Without hesitation, I said yes! We were then told to just wait outside while he collected a few more winners and took us into the VIP pen. Unfortunately, it was already three rows deep with VIP winners so being short, did not see much, but there was not a lot to see Juno Temple turned up then followed by Daniel Ratcliffe. They were not as accommodating as at the Dracula Untold premiere, where the stars turned round as you shouted to them, they seems oblivious to their fans!

Since, the seats were not allocated, I wanted to go in to make sure we got some decent seats, so did not hang around much after Daniel Ratcliffe went off to be interviewed and nothing else happened. Thanks to elski for saving me some seats at the front.

The stars came on and Daniel Ratcliffe did a quick intro. He is really tiny. A giant (well next to Daniel, he is) stood next to him and blocked my view so I did not get a good photo, but I advised my friend who I wanted to make sure she got a good picture, to sit in the one seat still available in the centre a few rows behind us, and I was right she did get a good shot!

The film was weird and quite dark, but quite funny too, Daniel with horns, and my friend said it was "bonkers" which sums it up nicely! 7/10

Big thanks to Elski who was kind enough to give me a spare ticket for the premier.

It was great fun watching Harry Potter play such a weird character. Although some of the connections between characters weren't that believable, it was funny, surprising and had a good measure of horror/fantasy. Quite an unusual film which kept my attention throughout.

7/10

It was nice to meet Elski and Funthing for the first time.

Radcliffe is undoubtedly trying very hard to break away from Harry Potter and he does quite well in this role even though his American account was slightly dodgy. The film is slightly too long and the dark comedic scenes don't always seem to work but it was reasonably entertaining. 6.5/10.

It's only 3 years since the last Harry Potter and out of 4 films and 1 TV show, 3 of them have been dark gothic? fantasies. He has a Frankenstein project and possibly Now You See Me 2 upcoming, a sequel to a magician movie. He's not trying very hard.

I thought this movie was a good idea poorly implemented, apparently the tone varies in the book but that's much harder to accomplish on screen. They should have taken one of the many threads and just horned in on that for a better adaptation.

I used one of my sweet Sunday vouchers to see this yesterday.
It was quirky but not in a bad way.
It was about 20 minutes too long and it did go off on a coiple of tangents it didn't need to.
Fine afternoon film though.

A bit late getting around to reviewing this but I really enjoyed it, thought Daniel Radcliffe was very good in the central role and the supporting cast members were pretty decent as well.

I thought the story as a whole was very engaging however I thought that the ending could have been in a way that was more effective emotionally speaking.

Overall it was a very decent horror flavoured comedic drama that did more than enough to get an 8/10 from me...
