not an out and out comedy, this is a gentle comic story really, essentially about ageing with (or without) grace. So not just an unashamedly cloying vehicle for Bill to add to the future Cult of Murray that will surely arise in some dystopian future. Its pretty good in its own right as a story, and pulls the heart strings at just the right times if perhaps once too many times. One of BMs best performance too, though its not groundbreaking, hes obviously put a lot of thought into the critical stages of the role. During his illness he sounded like he was doing an impression of (old) Muhammed Ali.
I have to admit to not recognising Watts at all, her performance is very good.
St Vincent is nothing to do that weird and wacky singer of the same name, btw.
The one thing that held it back was the perhaps a lack of direction? That, and it being advertised a little inappropriately as laugh-a-minute, which it never aimed to be.
