Re: FMUKCON 2015 - Edinburgh
Sounds like a plan is coming together. We could do with having definite numbers to sort out the venue. As Steve9872 suggested detailed itiniary for sightseeing etc for those who want to do it. I'm happy to go with the flow. We have the Friday all sorted so may I suggest that we start sightseeing from 9.30ish and people can choose to join in which bits float their boat if they want to or all of it. What does everyone like doing visiting? If we have the venue we can work around that.
Suggested places to visit:
Royal Botanical gardens have a walk through the new town
Arthurs Seat
Edinburgh Castle - amazing views from here - same as what I've said re Hollyrood House
Hollyrood House - fee to go in but it does take a few hours to go around so maybe better to just see from the outside unless everyone wants to go in or people go on their own.
Scottish Parliament building - free to go in
Art Gallery- free and lovely paintings.
Princes Gardens.
Lots of pretty churches etc and tiny passageways we can incorporate on the way.
Please add suggestions etc possibly a bar to escape to later from me ha ha.
We could do say the old town before the meet up and new one after but I need to check on opening times etc.

Ejwrank see what you have started I can't help myself
Once everyone has booked their trains, come up with ideas with what they want to do etc can fine tune everything. I'm not trying to take control just getting excited now.

Good to hear some suggestions. Here a few more
For those staying at Waterloo Place Calton Hill is virtually next door and is well with a visit for great views of Edinburgh and surrounding areas.
Some folks might be interested in the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith.
Also the grass market just behind the castle is very popular as has lots of good quality bars and restaurants.
Looking forward to our get together.

I did a bit a research of where we can have the official meet.
How about the gastro pubs - found on cheap eats in Edinburgh Cheap http://www.wow247.co.uk/blog/2014/05/26 ... edinburgh/
Any locals know it? If it is suitable, I am happy to call, negotiate any deals and book?
Red Squirrel
With a range of over 20 gourmet burgers, the Red Squirrel is the go-to gastropub for burger lovers and those in need of a hangover fix. With burger prices averaging £8- £9, this is great value feasting.
21 Lothian Rd, EH1 2DJ, 0131 229 9933, www.redsquirreledinburgh.co.uk
Holyrood 9A
A sister restaurant to the Red Squirrel, Holyrood 9A also has gorgeous gourmet burgers on offer, but with an added emphasis on craft beer and guests ales, which are always varied and of the highest quality. Guaranteeing a good pint and a great burger, this is one classy joint.

ooh, if we are going up to Leith, how about Mimi's Bakehouse on the shores of Leith.marjoreemarjora wrote: Some folks might be interested in the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith.
They do great lunches as well as cakes! They are fully licensed. I could call them to book a party too, if suitable.

Ooh they all sound wonderful and I'm staying at Waterloo Place so Calton Hill is just perfect. I've never seen the Royal Yacht Brittania so that would be fabulous if we could fit a trip in. How long is everybody staying for? I've just booked my train tickets so arrive at 11:02 on the Friday and leave at 14:12 on the Sunday so could always fit in something on the Sunday morning. My mind is now on overdrive as to how much I can fit in in a weekend but have time to enjoy it everything - I sometimes (well a lot of the time
) need reigning in.

You'll need to book, it's permanently packed out the door. It is also expensive ( especially for Leith)prettyxcool wrote:ooh, if we are going up to Leith, how about Mimi's Bakehouse on the shores of Leith.marjoreemarjora wrote: Some folks might be interested in the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith.

Red Squirrel is a Brewdog pub so it can be a bit laddish although not a sporty bar. I've never been in the Holyrood one. The burgers are nice at Red Squirrel. It's opposite my work so I can vouch it's ok.prettyxcool wrote:I did a bit a research of where we can have the official meet.

However if it's quiet and burgers you are after you'd all be better off at The Cambridge Bar in Young Street. Best burgers in town no music, no TV! It's a couple of doors down from the Oxford Bar made famous by Ian Rankin in the Rebus novels. It is very central.
Great coffee and cakes at Caffeine a Drip on Queensferry Road. A bit into the New Town cuckoo bakery do huge very tasty tea snd cupcakes.
