Re: Testament of Youth
I saw this at the cineworld Edinburgh screening. I thought it was a great film, if a tad long. Alicia Vikander stood out in particular for me, she played the part of Vera Brittain very well. It was beautifully shot with lovely scenery in England. A decent film about a very inspiring person. 7/10

TV drama makes it to the big screen. Didn't have much emphathy with the characters and felt over long. 6/10. Nice. Quiet screening at Croydon Grants apart from one person snooping half way through!

Re: Testament of Youth
I really enjoyed this last Monday. It brought lots of different emotions and triggered thought provoking questions; humour, romance and violence. I liked all the characters. It was a long film.
I'm not sure Bolton vue had the air conditioning on. I prefer to be warm at the cinema but it was very hot.
I'm glad bolton vue are screening show film first as they rarely do. Lots of seats free though

That's an interesting view but I am not sure you should be so quick to judge her if you ook at it from her viewpoint.JazzyDiva wrote:For example, reading about Vera Britten it seems that she was a huge advocate of appeasing the Nazi's, and we all know what the result of that would have been!.
Easy to disapprove of a peaceful solution with the Nazis in retrospect, but before WW2 started the peaceful solution is always the first choice, especially when we never knew how bad they'd get. No one could have imagined the Nazi atrocities to come.
Besides Britain has been happy to trundle along peacefully laissez faire or even (horrorshock) in support of plenty of pretty evil wars (Middle east recently?), no reason why they shouldn't have not done with the early Nazis, before the full horror of what they were doing became common knowledge. Vera's stance was surely the norm in those early days of the war.

Re: Testament of Youth
Saw this yesterday in Wimbledon. A very moving film about lives of four young people before, during and after the 1st World War. The inspirational Vera Brittain, who I had never heard of before this film, was beautifully played by Alicia Vikander (who played Princess Caroline Mathilde to perfection in the wonderful “A Royal Affair”). Her English accent was flawless – I wonder if everybody actually knows she is Swedish. She is one of those luminous actresses who lights up the screen whenever she is on and like Carey Mulligan, is excellent at conveying emotion whilst saying nothing. During this film, I felt all of her emotions and at the end I felt quite exhausted! This film really brought home the fact how everybody lost somebody close during WWI. The cinematography, cast, locations, costumes and lighting were all superb. The film had a sort of dreamy quality which plunged straight in and out of trenches of WWI and then back to the beautiful pastoral scenes of Yorkshire. A beautiful film – a bit too long, but would still recommend it. 10/10 (Just wished all the latecomers had arrived on time and the woman directly behind us had stopped rustling her bags throughout the film!)

Re: Testament of Youth
Amazingly well done. As good as the book and beats the old TV series. It's so very sad but shows how senseless war is and all that killing.... it touched most families in one way or another and it's heartbreaking.
