Just posted a review after seeing it at a preview.

The battle scenes are certainly not for the squeamish.
Didn't know anything about the true story that this relates to.Very sad to see so many faces of those involved at the end.
7/10

Re: Lone Survivor
High octane relentless action that is as intense as it gets. The action sequences are thrilling and graphic, especially the extended gunfight, and the pace is steadily built until we reach the final act where unfortunately the film drags.
Perhaps the characters are not wholly developed the The fight scenes are expertly directed by Peter Berg (and I did spot his cameo near the start of the film) and the result is an exhilarating survival story.
7.5/10.

Re: Lone Survivor
Thought this was very decent, thought they spent just enough time with the characters (before things kick off) to make you really care about what happens to them.
The action sequences are tough, intense and, at times, desperately insane...they're certainly worth the price of admission so overall this gets an 8/10 from me

Re: Lone Survivor
Saw this one yesterday,
Actually, this is far better than I expected and I am not very keen on Mark Whalberg as a film star.
A little rant first of all. I hate these "fashionable" flash forward plot devices they use to start a movie. They did it with Charlie's War and All is Lost and it kills some of the thrills that follows. I find it pointless...though in very exceptional circumstances it can serve some artistic merit. Anyway, rant over and besides that flashforward plot device didnt didn't bother me too much actually because of the bloody film title. Duh.
But even that film title doesn't matter because its all about the journey. It was worth telling and it was told well. There were parts of the journey that was important to tell as we can easily fall into obvious black and white perceptions of the Iraqi war.
Having said that, there is no doubt about the patriotism on display and the suspicious propaganda element to it, however, to their credit it is also not without moments of humbleness which I found the most gratifying and moving parts of the film.
As entertainment, it was absolutely thrilling. I dont care whether a film I am watching is true or not, I go to the cinema to be both entertained and challenged to thought provocation. In this movie, I felt I was really there with the soldiers and man do you feel their hits, their intensity and their fear. Superbly executed in my opinion. We've seen this many times before but when executed this well, its still a heart pumping, nail biting, seat shifting, tense ridden exhaustive ride.
What this film also does well is give you entertaining banter and small talk between the soldiers. Other films try to do this and sometimes it comes across false but here it felt natural and there are a fair few chuckles along the way.
I rate this film very highly. Its a complete package of humour, comradeship, war, drama, enlightening facts, and thought provoking messages. Is it propaganda? it sure as hell looks like it but so what. Is it an advert for join the army as some guy on Film 2014 suggested? Was he kidding? I hope so because I sure as hell wouldn't be enticed to join the army after seeing soldiers shot being dead! Give me a job at Carphone Warehouse please, I'll settle for that.
Is it a great film? Hell yeah.

Re: Lone Survivor
Saw this today with headphones on via the Blinkbox app at lunchtime (a long lunch) . I can say that in some ways the sound is much clearer and as TCMMG said you can hear the shots very clearly and the dialogue is easier to comprehend with the gunfire - I must be getting old!
Regarding the film I thought the story was told very well and you feel part of it. The banter between the soldiers is interesting and the story moves at a good pace. A good choice of cast and well acted. I always find the IMDB trivia for 'based on a true story' films interesting and would recommend it for this film. I haven't watched a good film like that for a long time but will be keen to see how it compares to American Sniper which I have booked to see tomorrow. I give it a 9/10.

Re: Lone Survivor
Saw this film at a special DVD release screening last year and loved every minute of it. Much preferred this real life, navy seal film to that of American Sniper.
