Surely the whole film was about "the extreme". The foul disgusting language was meant to unsettle.
Have to agree with The Sparrow on this, the language was foul but didn't feel unrealistic or unnecessary.

Personally I enjoy films which aren't candy coated so I'm grateful that we weren't subjected to the 12A version of this character ;) ...

Well, each to their own. I know lots of people that agree with me.

Going to the 'extreme' and being 'unsettled' can still be achieved in other ways.

I strongly recommend you never watch Full Metal Jacket.

I have seen it. That's war based not school! Totally different

To say that it's war based means that the drill sergeant's bullying would be justified, which it's not. In both movies, the antagonists physically and psychologically abuse their students in order to unlock hidden levels of potential and in both cases there are tragic consequences.
I don't think either of these movies condone extreme measures as necessity. It's more about highlighting the risk that comes with achieving that kind of greatness.

Exactly as some have described it: difficult to explain to someone who hasn't seen it, but incredibly engaging throughout. Fantastic soundtrack too. Easily the best film I've seen in quite a few months.

9/10

Amazing film.seen it twice so far and it still
gripped me from the word go.
Was bit reluctant to see it first time round because
I am not into jazz but boy am so glad I did.
Film 4 are showing an interview with the stars
On at odd times between films but worth catching.
