Loved this film! A good antidote to the recent spy films which take themselves far too seriously. Gadgets, a witty script and beautifully done set pieces.

It is a very British film though. Not sure how well it will be received internationally, particularly in America.

I thought this was an enjoyable tongue in cheek British spy caper that takes its Bond meets Eliza Doolittle concept and runs with it, tackling it with enough wanton abandon to give your average Daily Mail reader a minor coronary (especially the church scene) .
Colin Firth has fun playing up his standard posh gentleman persona throwing in a touch of gleeful, over the top comic violence, Samuel L Jackson has a ball as the lisping tech-billionaire villain and Taron Egerton builds on his 'star in the making' turn in Testament of Youth with a completely different class of character.
Like his 'chav' spy in training, the film can be a little rough around the edges (some of the CGI is pretty poor) but it's wonderfully amoral fun while it lasts.

Piccadilly Circus had to turn people away. I noticed that nearly everyone of them had a coffee in their hands. Look folks, here's the thing: seats come first then you get your drink or snack. If you do it the other way round you really only have yourself to blame, especially with a popular film like this. Security told us from the start that it would be busy, and it was.

The film was bonkers mad and a lot of fun. I had to stuff my hand into my mouth not to giggle too loudly when Colin Firth started beating up the chavs at the beginning. Brilliant.

9/10

I also enjoyed this immensely. Not as original as Kick-Ass, far more derivative; but highly entertaining nevertheless. Am afraid I was also completely oblivious to the cameos. Unlike a lot of films of this type it manages to continue building to the end rather than fizzling out or just repeating itself.

Edinburgh Omni was full. Security men sitting in the back row were distracting going up and down the aisle for the first twenty minutes and hearing voices coming through on their radios.

Excellent mix of action and comedy. Glad I read on here to wait after the credits started to roll to see the last bit when he got his revenge on the chavs and his mothers boyfriend. Loved it! 9/10

I stand alone on here but I didn't like this at all. At least husband agreed with me! Glad that so many FMUKers liked it but we felt we had wasted our time.

You are definitely not alone, ejwrank. I was seated beside another Fmuker and dad and they did not like it. Dad said at the end that it was the worst film he'd ever seen!
We had a good laugh about how different our views were of the same film as they couldn't believe I really enjoyed it. Just shows what pleases one doesn't necessarily please all.
Preferred cinemas: Best: Glasgow Quay, Glasgow Braehead, Glasgow Renfield Street, Glasgow Fort & Paisley

no you are not alone. I have been waiting for this film for months, so maybe I'd hyped myself up too much. It was very good in parts, but not enough tongue in cheek humour for me.

I loved the soundtrack, very Bond like, and there were some fabulous set pieces. HOwever Samuel L got on my nerves very quickly. The boy was great, had a touch of Ewan McGregor about him and as for Colin Firth, all I can say is WOW 8/10
I agree! I had also been looking forward to seeing the film for so long, it had to be perfect, whereas Whiplash (I know a very different type of film), I wasn't expecting much and was amazed!

I didn't hate it but found it quite inconsistent. Some of the spy caper antics worked well with humour and enjoyable action sequences but the story felt like it dragged in places and some of the special effects looked atrocious. Caine and Davenport felt wasted in their roles. 7.5/10.

On this occasion it might be said the movie was too good. I was so high off the finale of the film that I forgot to accidentally walk into the Unseen screening next door.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?
