Good Kill

#1 Post by stuartboy » Tue Mar 31, 2015 9:29 pm

Good idea. Definite promise. Just failed to deliver.
1/10 for cinematography - why are so many movies being set in Las Vegas and Nevada desert? That desert housing estate seems to crop up again and again in films. The Afghan sets looked all identical and CGId, and the explosions and buildings looked all alike.
2/10 for story - it definitely had prospects but didn't really go anywhere and was quite frankly dull.
8/10 for concept and idea and originality.

Overall gets a 5 from Len.

Unfulfilling and rather lack-lustre.

Surprised the Americans had the balls to make a film like this. It doesn't exactly paint them in a good light. I did find it a bit slow but was interesting never the less.

I really enjoyed this as it was watching the way wars have and will change. The story was good of a man balancing home life with killing people authorised by the CIA. It was interesting to hear the induction talk about many new recruits were there because of their gaming skills and no longer physical fitness or special arms training. In some ways, this made it more frightening than direct combat on the ground. Like steve, I am a little surprised that this film has been made . . .also, because the film starts with the statement about being based on true events.

started with the Duff at Wimbledon lol. Now I want to see that! The duff girl doesnt even look duff, I'd say she was the prettiest, silly really. but how did the cinema have a copy of the Duff before its release?

anyways, Good Kill, depicting the rather barren existence of a drone pilot whose life flits between a claustrophobic pilot control room and the blindingly hot Texan(?) summer of his hometown. The movie does occasionally get a little dull, its so stripped of life, but its all done for a reason. That said it could have done with a bit more life.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

This was certainly thought provoking. Drones and what they can do without anyone knowing they are there- terrifying in reality. I agree I've seen that housing estate in Las Vegas in umpteen films, I really remember it in the vampire film with Colin the Irishman! I don't think we felt the heat snd the claustrophobia quite enough. Not a film to cheer anyone up.

the being based on xbox comment was a bit worrying if its true. I hope they kept their receipts for those drones.

There was the idea, the concept and the situation - all very thought-provoking and interesting, I agree, and would have worked as an interesting documentary, but the back story was just so lame - so little happened. Alocoholism/stress, marital disharmony and a tiny threat of continuity with a bad man getting what he deserved, but little else. Could have been so much better.

Alythonian - you mean Fright Night, with Colin Farrell and David Tennant. It was on telly this weekend.

I think any artistic drawing of parallels between the beige housing estate surrounded by desert in Nevada and the beige Afghanistan housing scheme in the middle of that desert was a little redundant. It could have worked just as well using an alternative location that was totally opposite. I got the connection but didn't need it.

Dull as ditch water, struggled to stay awake
Wimbledon Odeon on good form again showing the wrong film. Same happened a couple of weeks ago when they put us in the screen for Birdman instead of Run all night!!!

Arrived promptly at Edinburgh Lothian Road at 6pm to see the film had started. Thought I had mistaken the time but nope cinema started 30 mins early. Once alerted Manager was very apologetic and stopped the film till 6.30pm.

Now the film... I didn't mind it and found it quite interesting that they can control drones from a portacabin in Las Vegas. Yes storyline was a bit wishy washy and the fact that no one noticed he was downing a bottle of Spirits before work each day was unbelievable. But overall was kept interested throughout.
